SoWal Lunchtime at Grayton Beer Brewpub

February 20, 2019 by Audrey Johnson

On Valentine’s Day the SoWal Staff lunched at Grayton Beer Brewpub for some local love.

We beat the dinner crowd and opted for lunchtime bites. (Or so we thought…they were actually pretty busy!) Healthy salads, handhelds, and hearty apps found their way to the table as we chatted over the devastating Red Bar fire, and where we couldn’t wait to dine next. (Basmati’s, we’re coming for ya!)

Grayton Beer Brewpub has a lunch special every day of the week and they post it on Facebook around 11 am…just when you start to feel like you’re starving. I honestly have no idea what the special was that day, because I desperately needed vegetables. And in a place known for its bar food, that might seem like a tall order.

Luckily, the menu is well balanced, and I wasn’t the only one on a health kick. Two of us ordered Grayton Chopped salads with chicken. You can get it grilled or fried. Speaking of fried, the hot shrimp poboy is to die for. A play on Nashville hot chicken, the spicy shrimp sandwich is served on traditional French bread, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

People who make burgers on brioche buns clearly know what they’re doing. And hush puppies with jalapenos are perfect with a stout beer brewed right on site. If you order one side at Grayton Beer Brewpub, do yourself a favor and make it the collards. They are so good y’all. Just like Thanksgiving.

We had more work to do so we did the responsible thing and didn’t order a round of beers for lunch. (Just one…for photos.) But just so you know, you can get 32oz cans of Grayton Beer to go. Grayton Brewpub features dozens of suds that are poured from the tap and sealed so they last about a week and a half. Perfect for sippin' on after work.

Keep a lookout for our next SoWal lunch spot. We do lunch on the reg and we’ll be sharing some of our favorite spots with you in weeks to come while highlighting a few dishes for you to try. You can also visit the SoWal Dining Guide for restaurant listings and food stories, and you can even write your own reviews in the SoWal Dining Forum. Maybe we’ll try your faves!
