New to the Area - SF Bay Area transplant
My husband and son and I just moved to the area from California and am looking for recommendations for a number of services.
Personal Trainer
Algebra and/or Science tutor for my Junior High son (8th grade)
Granite Installer
Someone who can stain concrete floors
Any suggestions for contemporary Christian churches (been to Destiny Worship)
Good family doctor and dentist
Are there any "newcomer groups" in the Seacrest/Seaside/Seagrove area?
This is such an awesome site and I appreciate any suggestions and recommendations.

MarMarGal! Just wait...you will get more suggestions than you know what to do with! Are you on 30-A or close? There are plenty of places the local's and semi-locals (those of us that come down most weekends) meet for food, drinks and funn! Hang on...help is on the way!

MarMarGal! I hope you and your family settle in well. For some of the things you mentioned--like the granite installer--use the search function. There have been recent questions and you'll be able to look at past posts and get some good recs. And if you can't find it, ask away like you're doing now!

Re: New to the Area - SF Bay Area transplant
just curious: why did you move here from San Francisco? Ignore if it's too personal--I'm just always curious about how people find SoWal and decide to relocate...San Francisco is my favorite US city!

Here's my plug for Church. The Chapel at the Beach is a new Church (started in April) small but dynamic and meets at the Town Hall in Rosemary Beach. It has Contemporary music that is OUTSTANDING, led by Chris Taylor (who just recorded a CD in Nashville.) Come see for yourself! It is Non-Denominational, starts at 9:00 ends at 10:00, has a new Youth Pastor and lots of Bible study opportunities.

Another church you could check out, if you don't mind driving into Destin, is the "Church at the Rave". Shoreline Church meets at the Rave theater sunday mornings at 9 am. http://www.shorelinechurch.net/
Shoreline is more on the edgy rocking side of contemporary, and the pastor always wears flip flops!

Welcome! We are transplants from San Jose, CA!
Neocrete stains concrete floors, but I don't have any personal experience with their work. The Grayton Gym has a few personal trainers.

Re: New to the Area - SF Bay Area transplant
I have cousins in San Francisco and Oakland. Visited a few years ago, have to say I like it better here! My daughter is in the 8th grade, she's enrolled in the Florida Virtual School online. We think it is awesome, it's provided by the state free to Florida citizens school age. We really like George Roll, PA at Seagrove Clinic, and Dr Mary Hencinski, Dentist, in Freeport. I also like Cornerstone Assembly of God in Pt. Washington. Very small old church. I'd rather be more careful, consequences can be overwelming. Dad used to say, when you build a good, strong foundation, when the storm comes, you'll stand.

Contact Bobby at Florida Bath and Glass for your granite counter tops. His # is 850-685-9333. My contractor friend recommends him over several others.

My name is Amy. First off welcome! I am from San Jose , CA. I have been in Seagrove 4 months. It is great. the church I go to when I am not working Sunday mornings is A Simple Faith. It is AWESOME! For Personal trainer I go to Balance Studio just 2 minutes from my house. I actualy walk there in like 1 min..lol. I take yoga but they also do boot camp and personal one on ones. The oners are sooo rad and all of the trainers are now freinds. Kelli, Lori, Mellisa are such blessings and Mark who runs the frint is a doll. Bart (owner) also does spin and chiropractic.
I work at Modica Market in Seaside. It's a massive change from being a sales manager for a 24Hour Fitness in San Jose working 60 hours a week. Check out Modica. The homemade food is exceptional. The family owned business is like one you will never find else where and the speciality iteams are hard to find anywhere else around here!
Come in and see me. I am there this week Monday day and wed, thur, and frid night!Last edited by amyinshape; 08-30-2009 at 10:29 AM.
