Week 2...Spring BREAK?
I know this has been discussed before, but perfect example of "good Kids" on spring break is going on next door.
It is now about 10:30, and the party has gone on every night since Sunday.(and this is the 2nd week of underage spring breakers- no adult in sight!- oh yeah- there was one there for about 15 min. when they got here!) Tonight seems to be the largest. There must be 10 cars out there and who knows how many people. My daughter just came down and asked me if they were ever going to stop so she could sleep, little one has woken up crying twice
Owner knowingly rented to them (they are good kids
) well.....there sure are a lot of them, and hootin' and hollerin' must come naturally with the natural-light that they had to bring a u-haul to carry it all (no, I'm not kidding- they brought a u-haul!!) Every morning my DH has gone out picking up beer cans and cups, etc. from the front of our house.
The kicker is that the 1st day they got here, they brought me their phone # to call "before we called the sheriff"!!
I have no desire to be the one to have to police the party, but when is enough enough?

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Call me a killjoy, but I wouldn't think twice about calling the cops. I've had to do it to the college kids whose yard backs up to ours here. One Sunday night I was dealing with a scenario similar to yours and once it got to be about this time and my kids couldn't sleep, well, I called the police. Cops won't tell them who made the call. Problem was solved in a half hour.

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
A U-Haul for beer?
If they are disturbing the peace and your family can't sleep, maybe you should call them first, ask them to quiet down and clean their mess, or you'll have to take further action.
Although, we had 2 groups of unrelated underage fellas an owner rented to last week, and our grounds owner who we pay to monitor things, went out to the pool at 2:30 am to ask them nicely to quiet down, and found glass broken by the pool which got in. So he closed it down for cleanup early am, and they decided to jump the fence with more beer bottles the next night (since he padlocked it at around 10 pm after it was cleaned)
So, he went back again, and one of the fellas kind of got in his face ( I am an adult, I know what i am doing blah, but meanwhile they broke more beer bottles jumping the fence or they were throwing them off the decks.
Fortunately one of the other fellas came and kind of broke things up or it could have gotten ugly, and my neighbor is a really laid back guy, so I know he didn't get nasty or loud.
But when people are drunk, you never know how they will react.
Maybe it's better to just call the Sheriff? How would they know it was you and not another neighbor?

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
i have no problem with calling the police and i wouldn't even bother calling the home first. sleep is precious, and especially for kids so i say to heck with it - call the cops !

Beachmom, I could tell you stories that would curl your hair about what's going on with rambunctious spring-breakers this year. Let me say: you are not alone! (unfortunately)

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Heck, I wouldn't hesitate to call the sheriff. In the past I had to call the police here in GA (after a few warning calls) because our next-door neighbors would go to their lake house to allow their teenaged girls to have big parties. Frequently the parties were on weeknights, and because our bedroom is on the side of our house that is on their driveway side, all of the screaming and cussing would keep us up all night. And then we'd be zombies the next day at work. The worst time was at a birthday party when the 16 year old got a brand new BMW convertible for her birthday. At about 2 AM the kids got so drunk that they filled it up with water. All I heard was kids screaming, "Oh, sh--!" The car was totaled. The parents bought her a new one a few days later. They obviously didn't care about the partying or underaged drinking. BTW these are "old money" people.

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Beachmom if you know the owner or the management company I would call them first. Who knows what kind of damages are going on inside, and how the kids represented themselves. Did they pay enough of a deposit to cover whatever they have done to the place? the owner deserves to know what's happening. If that doen't stop things, then I would call the cops.

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Make the call. They are being comepletely disrespectful of the owners of the house, and the neighbors. Since they have basically given the finger to every rule and have bad manners on top of it, screw'em.
Hopefully the owners will learn their lesson and not rent to "good kids" next year....

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Give the kids a break. They just want to get drunk.
You know I'm kidding abou the first sentence. If they gave you their number, I would have called it already, and told them what time quiet time begins, and let them know that since you have called them, the next call will be to the Sheriff's Office. It isn't a one call per night to them. They need to remember the quiet time hours for the remainder of the week.
On a similar note of no adults in sight, at 8:30pm last night, Seaside looked like a town made specifically for 11-15 yr olds. I saw no adults, but at least 100 kids running around. I felt way out of place as I walked through all the kids. Word on the street is that there was a major fight between a couple of kids in Seaside on Monday or Tuesday night with one of the kids getting the crap beaten out of him. Most of the kids I saw last night seem to be in control and just having a little social fun. I saw a few lit cigarettes, but didn't notice anyone drinking. There was a Sheriff's Deputy car parked in Seaside, so I guess the Deputy was patrolling on foot keeping an eye on things.

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Thanks everyone- you should see the mess this am!!! Sad thing is, we did call the owner the 1st day they were here- we always keep an eye on things for him- and he assured us that these were good kids and should be fine. Apparently he didn't go through his rental co. on this one
sooo, can't help anymore on the house. If it goes on again tonight (who am I kidding- when it happens again tonight!!) I'll be making some phone calls.
Is spring BREAK almost over yet?!?!

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
The spring breakers need to stay in PCB or Destin condos if they want to party. This is exactly why I purchased in a non-rental community. I would definitely let them know that 11:00 p.m. starts quiet time and if they continue call the sheriff. Maybe next year they'll find somewhere else to stay.

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Beachmom, here's the plan - go get Jfunn's bullhorn.
Teenagers can party all night and sleep all day, this is when you
get your revenge. Mow the yard, get out the weedeater, yell
at your kids thru the bullhorn and start all of this about 7 a.m.

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Well, that should teach him.
Seriously...the sheriff's department is 267-2000. They are a little understaffed at the moment, but both the evening and the midnight shifts are out between 9 pm and 1 am. The closer to midnight you get, the grumpier the cop is likely to be, which is good in these situations.
Good luck !Go Seminoles...fight team fight...SCALP'EM!!

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Funny you should say that Dbuck!! This am I told the kids "jokingly" that we should wake them up now- so one yelled out the window- "wake up, wake up, wake up!!!" (6:45
)
I'm loving the sheriff dept. right now- they put one of those speed tracker things on the road right before the house they are staying in
, not that it's helping yet....they came in behind me at double + the speed limit...but it still is something.
I need the military bugle call! and Jdarg- I've got the 2 barking dogs covered!!

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Do you have a car alarm? Can you park right in front of their place and set it off as you leave in the morning? Or heck, just honk the horn again and again. The kids might get a kick out of that.

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
If I hear SPRING BREAK 2007 from another drunk underage kid I am going to scream. I can not believe all the unattended, underage kids down here... Amazing that parents would allow kids to come down unattended and what about the liability for the person they are renting from, any laws on that?

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
You have their number and they don't exactly know your name (do they?). What you could do is call at about seven or so every morning as a wake up prank call.

All the neighbors came out today asking WT*?? One with a trash bag just cleaning up. Hopefully this is not going to become a habit

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
I really hate to read things like this, since I have ranted on this subject until I have turned blue. What are these parents thinking? Anyone who leaves a group of underage college kids in someone's home without any adult supervision (over Spring Break, no less) is out of their mind with stupidity. "They're good kids" just means they're your kids. Makes me want to
. Then again, I guess there's more than enough of that action going on down there this week. Yuck.

Re: Week 2...Spring BREAK?
Sure, just send your trash our way. Like we don't have the same problem here. Oh but wait..we're supposed to be the spring break tenements? Right.
Kids in America are spoiled and loosing their competitive edge in the world. To many excesses..and not enough responsibility. Damn shame. And parents are weak and permissive to boot.
