I wonder if I'm the only guy on the Emerald Coast who actually enjoys rush hour traffic on 98?

Well, sure, compared to Seattle this can't truly be called rush hour traffic, but at about 4:00 or so when I'm coming back from Fort Walton through Destin, it's a little sorta kinda in-a-way resembling a form of rush hour...I guess...or maybe I'm just whining cuz there's like two cars ahead of me :)

Waitaminute - do you realize you just came up with the BEST slogan the Beaches of South Walton could ever use: "WHAT Rush Hour Traffic?"

Now that we have GPS all over the place, can we find out exactly "WHERE" over the rainbow?

Beautiful morning at the beach. Clear blue sky, about 70 degrees. I took a long walk. The Gulf is so clear, and so calm that someone was yoloing. Eastern Lake is just about to break through to the Gulf. Dogs were having fun running around in it. Fishermen were enjoying fishing. Children were enjoying building sandcastles. Adults were enjoying their long walks as well. Then to my amazement I saw a school of dolphins passing by. I was thrilled because I don't remember ever seeing that in Seagrove.

    This is paradise.

    MrMentalFitness,

One of the neatest things I've ever seen was this week flying between Chicago & St. Louis, we flew OVER a rainbow and were looking down on it. It was bright colors and a clear view - just the best thing ever!

absolutely true for SoWal... but getting into Destin during the season is another matter entirely. It is still not as bad as the big city, but its awful enough.

Sometimes when we have great weather and I am driving down 30A with the windows down, I think how cool it would be if I had a convertible and could be driving with the top down.

Then I get nailed with a sprinkler full of swamparse water and am very glad I don't!

We have been trapped at home all day due to a water main break at the bottom of our driveway. Tornado warnings too. Crazy train.

Thanks. Yes, it is a mess, and now the hole is covered with two huge steel plates. Every time a vehicle drives over it, it makes a really loud noise. Argh.

At least it was in the street and not your house.

Though steel plates drive me nuts - don't know why they can't add some cushioning (recycled tire?) to make them quieter.

Yes, because since it's on the city side of the water meter, the city pays for the damage. At first I thought it was on our side of the meter because water was pouring out from under our sod, like maybe our sprinkler system expoded. Thank goodness it won't cost us anything.

Sister is too. My nephews go to two different private schools in Dallas. So she is always on the road. I tell her to consider herself blessed because virtually in a blink of the eye, they'll be in college. One wants Stanford, the other will probably be at UT Austin (where I wanted to go but Mom wouldn't let me leave Tulane).

I went through severe depression when our daughter left for MIT. So far away. So did she. But it was like, how do you turn down an opportunity that is a ticket to success? We finally realized that happiness is more important than prestige. It has been nice to have her closeby once she transferred to GT.

Learn from our mistake that happiness is more important than attending an Ivy or MIT just for prestige. Even though college-aged students don't want to admit it, they are comforted by having Mom and Dad nearby. They just won't admit it because it wouldn't be cool.

Now that our daughter has graduated and married, she still wants me to accompany her to doctor and dentist appointments. Her husband is working on the dissertation for his Ph.D. at Georgia Tech, so he has to be focused on that.

Just a word or two about some very good news I just received from my wife, Betty, who is at M.D. Anderson for evaluation of her cancer.

As many know, she has been battling this abhorrence for almost five years now and we are grateful that she is been able to do so successfully. That success is due to her oncologist at M.D. Anderson, Dr. Aparisio and her oncologist at Sacred Heart, Dr. Johnson as well as her desire and determination to fight as hard as possible to maintain a quality of life worth living. She has accomplished that and continues to do so.

Her latest report shows her tumors decaying from the inside out and turning black. While this is far from remission it is still very good news.

Cancer for anyone is a very stressful situation and it is hard on family members as well. For all those in such situations I can only say, stay the course, be hopeful and most of all, be supportive of the cancer victim.

Oh, and one final thought. Live your lives as though nothing is wrong and live them to the fullest.

I wish that I hadn't sold my yellow Mustang Fastback. It was my birthday present (12/22 ... 22 is the day, not the year ... LOL). Hubby saw one today at a car show in AU. Brings back a lot of memories. Like driving it on Christmas Day right after I got it with a bunch of my cousins at 120 mph on 166 before it opened while the adults were back at Grandma's and Grandpa's house.
