Take HWY 331 S until it dead-ends at HWY 98 in SoWal. Should be a 3-3 1/2 hour drive. Traffic can get heavy during tourist season, but you should be o.k now. Remember that check-in time is around 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and check-out time is around 10 a.m. on Saturdays and lots of people travel 331 to arrive here or depart here. If you time your travel to avoid the rush, you should have little traffic.

    Hope you have fun!

We take I65 south to Georgiana. Then 55 south to 331. Its seems a little faster to me.

I think that is route I was looking for, I have taken 331 all the way from Montgomery and that is too slow.

The Georgiana route is farther distance but faster speed. So it typically works out about the same time. I've tried it vs. 331 repeatedly and it all boils down to the traffic/time of day. Don't do 331 if it will put you into the morning go-to-work rush hour or the Fri-Sat mid-afternoon go-to-the-beach-before-the-checkin-deadline rush hour.

When the I-65 connector is complete, you can go from Montgomery almost down to I-10 on interstate, before jumping on 331S at Defuniak Springs. The Interstate Connector will actually hit I-10 between hwy 77 and Hwy 79, so for the people going to the east end of 30A, it will be faster to go down down 79, then cut over on the WaterSound Parkway which will intersect hwy 79 at CR388 (at the new airport). In about two weeks when the NW FL Transportation Authority approves the meeting minutes from the Aug meeting, where they prioritized the road construction, we can have an idea of when that interstate connector will be scheduled to take place.

Any idea where to find a map of the proposed route?

We've driven the Georgiana route for 6 years and recently started taking 331 (we do many trips to Birm.) 331 is much faster if you drive it when there is no tourist traffic, otherwise it is slower. There is only tourist traffic at certain times of the week.

I came back down 331 this past Tuesday. We just blazed. The attendant at the little Alabama rest stop said he hadn't seen any beach-bound folks all day.
