I cannot stand to see this stuff. After what transpired with the other dog situation on here, it's hard to see any good coming for this poor thing. The words they use are horrible. Termination date??? I so dislike kill shelters. Somebody please go get this pooch.

Thank you Miss Kristi. I know that this isn't always easy to look at - but maybe if we all help pass this along we can save this poor pup.

Ironically - I have my hands full with kitty feet, they don't smell like Fritos either.

Savvy, I appreciate your work, but maybe you may want to consider a warning in the thread title.

This dog struck a chord with me because my parents had one when I was a baby and he probably saved my life. We lived in the City and my mother thought she closed the courtyard fence, but in a flash I managed to push it open and crawl onto the sidewalk close to the street. The dog was dragging me by my diaper to keep me from going any further.

To boot, this pup's kill date is my b-day.

I hope he finds a home with a nice family.
They are a loyal breed and have great temperments.

Re: Blue eyed beauty needs home

I went to see an update on this pup and this is what I found, "9/21 - She has tested positive for heartworms. The adopter will need to be responsible for her treatment."

I'm not sure what everyone is wanting when they are requesting that I "warn" them in the thread title - that a thread is about a dog in a kill shelter.

All my dog posts will continue to stay in the All About Sowal section (unless moved, or asked to change by Kurt). If it is a dog in a kill shelter I will put the little "!" icon in the title.

I don't know of another way to try and be considerate to everyone's wishes, without having a dreadful title to the dog posts.

Savvy, are all the animals at the refuge just dogs?
Sorry, I don't have the heart to look at the refuge link.

The only reason I looked was a non-sowaler I know had a dog a while ago that passed away with blue eyes, and I thought I would show this to them.

I think the yield sign is sufficient .

Hope someone steps up to adopt this dog. Pound puppies are so appreciative. They seem to know.

Keep up this great work of love Savvy! We need not fear to look upon those who are less fortunate. When we let go of the fear we let go of the guilt. I used to never step foot in a kill shelter....then my Kalie 9then 6 years old)talked me into going to one over in Ocean Springs, Ms. We go to it every time we visit my Dad. As sad as it is I've learned a lot through this experience. For one thing, I sometimes get to touch a dog or cat. It may be the last loving touch they receive, the last sweet words whispered into their little ears, and the last person they get to give a little lick to. On the reverse side it may be their first loving touch, words, and kiss. This is so hard, but it helps me to fight through fear, and the guilt I normally feel that I can't take one....just one. So, then it becomes NOT just about ME....but something I give and receive back.

    I applaud you Miss Savvy

They have lots of cats too, including (from what I've seen online) some rare breeds.

I had a cat with blue eyes too. Lost her a little over a year and a half ago - had her since we were both babies. Any animal with blue eyes always hits an extra soft spot with me.

Oh Kat, that made me cry - the good kind of cry. And I don't do that, or admit to it often.

    Thank you.

It isn't the happiest thing to come home, get online, and find a "kill shelter" pup waiting in my inbox. I'm not infallible. I'm sure I'll be thinking about those blue eyes most of this weekend - and if things don't go well - they will stay with me much longer. However, I have decided (and offer) to do what I can to help. All I can offer this pup is my purest effort of finding a loving home, or foster home, and my unconditional love.

    I couldn't agree more.

It is so hard to read about things that make us sad (& I am only speaking for myself).

Then may I suggest you put the type of animal in addition to your yield sign if the animal is scheduled to be destroyed.

Kat, bless your heart if you can go to a kill shelter. All I can personally do is donate food and towels/sheets/blankets. Anything beyond that is too heartwrenching for me.

I cried while writing it. It was a good cry too! Bless you Savvy
I would give anything if I could take that sweetie....I just lost one that we adopted and had to treat for heart worms. Someone dropped him near Hwy. 98 and Point Washington...part lab, boxer. What a loving child he was! Now I'm crying the sad cry. Of course listening to Nora Jones...Come Away With Me doesn't help!

It's not only hard to read about them JR, it horrible! But we are not always asked to do the easy or wonderful thing. Thank goodness we do get a break from that. When we each read and respond it only makes us stronger. You are one strong person....remember who you are! Bless you JR

Kat, I am say it like it is type of gull.

As long as I have been on the Board I have not yet seen too many threads regarding rescue pets from Shelters, so no specific protocol has really been established.
I was just simply making suggestions in how to present them, especially ones that have a limited window of opportunity.

If the thread title has the type of pet, be it dog, cat, bird, monkey etc., a viewer can choose to look or move on without being exposed to the possibility of seeing something that may provoke emotion.

I realize it's not about us, but by offering as much info in the thread title as possible leaves the decision to the viewer to continue.

I get the impression that some feel like they are being berated for their goodwill attempts, if so, please accept my apology, but that was not my intention.

Gull....I NEVER thought that's what you were doing! I am glad to have people speak up. It helps me to hear this info as I know I have probably started threads in unappropriate spots. It also helps me realize I need to be a little more informative in my thread subject. SoWal is such a funn place and we're all so casual here at the beach that sometimes I forget that I'm not just sitting around with a bunch of my friends talking. I need to keep it short and simple. So, on that note, I guess I better stop.

    you...Kat time for sleep!

Re: Blue eyed beauty needs home

I just checked the website for the pup and found this update, "9/22 - We have someone that is willing to donate her treatment and she will be pulled from the shelter tomorrow! Thank you! At this point, she is up for adoption."

to whoever thought about helping out with this pup's treatments! Why didn't I think about asking for that?

I am so happy right this moment. I think I'm speachless. So I'll just ---

Thank you whoever you are that has come forward and done this kind act. I've been fretting over this poor pooch since I saw this thread. Many people view that petfinder website. If you were someone on this Sowal board, bless you for what you've done to save this pup's life.

Savvy does this mean someone will donate $ for the care of the heart worm treatment, but they still need an adopter for her? She's a beaut....I wish I could take her. How long does someone have to adopt her?

My rough understanding is just that - some person stepped forward and is paying the medical expenses involved.

She does still need a home, and although sooner is better, there isn't a time frame since she is being removed from the kill shelter.

I do hope that she can find a home soon, and of course I will share any updates as I get them!

Thank you and to the board and the area Aleigh. Just sharing with others means a lot to me - but much more importantly you never know when you pass something like this along that you might be a part of creating something magical.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I couldn't do it either Sandflea. I think that would be on my list of hardest jobs in the world.

Don't forget everyone that Blue Eyes still needs a loving home! I would be so happy to hear that this pup offically would have a new start on life. Or maybe there is someone out there that would love to foster her -- baby her a little until she gets well and finds a home?

(Kurt - could we take the "!" alert off the thread since the pup is safe? Thought I would ask. )
