Maas Coffee House
There is a really neat place we discovered in Ft Walton Beach, Maas Coffee Roasters. It is directly across HWY 98 from the Indian Mound Museum in the old downtown section. Yes, it is a good 45 minutes from the west end of 30-A, but it is worth your time. The guy who owns it roasts his own beans on site. I learned more about coffee in 30 minutes than I ever imagined one could in a casual manner...for instance, do you know who buys the majority of all the coffee beans grown on Earth? They have beans from all over the place-Africa, Asia, Latin and South America, Jamaica, Puerto Rico...really cool. There is a free meet-up there on Thursday nights where he brews up all sorts of stuff and you get to learn and taste. Anyway, I thought some of you might enjoy the little road trip into Ft Walton. By the way, the Coca-Cola company buys more coffee beans than anyone else on Earth, simply to extract caffeine!

Re: Maas Coffee House
while you are there don't miss out on barbecue and thai food at Big Daddy's BBQ on Hwy 98 in Mary Esther. Tell Donna hello! She is the former owner of Royal Orchid. She is the queen of thai food too! the joint has plenty of outdoor seating on a large deck. frequented by lots of Eglin air force dudes in uniform...

BIG CITY.
They serve delish coffee...maybe they buy their beans from Maas.

Re: Maas Coffee House
Across from the Indian Mound you say?
Any chance we will see Juan Valdez and his donkey climbing down the mound with a sack of coffee beans headed for the Maas Coffee House.
It would be a great marketing ploy and even might bring FWB-phobes like me come by for a drink.

we LOVE mass coffee house. in addition to wonderful coffees of all kinds, they serve Fat Clemenza's pizzas! ha ha - really! we stop in whenever possible. Its very near Emerald Coast Science Center so kids enjoy the center, and the beautiful waterfront park - and we sip on some really good coffee. oh, and we still try to combine the trip with a lunch at Daddy's to eat some of Donna's thai food (former royal orchid owner). we like the BBQ there too - its really good!

I'm definitely late to this party! The Coke factoid is insteresting but not surprising once you get past the coffee connection. I love small roasters like this. We go to one off of the square in Mareitta (for you ATL folk) called Cool Beans. They roast daily. Have actually run into Alton Brown in there on one occasion. The small independant places make you realize how bad Starbucks coffee can be!

you are right. these places are little treasures. and there are not very many around. let's try to support them before they are completely extinct! road trip!!!!!!!!!! hey, its only 45 minutes from SoWal to fine coffee next to a gorgeous waterfront park to spend your afternoon.
