Are you getting a lot of wave action today from Rita?
Looking at Destincam.com, it appears so.

This morning, the waves were about 5'-6'. Streaks of occasionaly hard rain all along the Gulf.

Just received this from Seagrove Beach:
WATER IS CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With Hurricane Rita churning just of the coast, the Gulf is extremely
rough. This may look like great time for body surfing and boogie
boarding to visitors who are checking in. We have double red flags
flying and there are extremely dangerous rip currents.

TWC was talking about the rip currents last night along the Panhandle...stay out of the water!!!!

A few more photos available here for registered users. Local surfers are guessing that the wave action peaked late this afternoon. There are a few big pieces of debris floating around, and that has kept many smarter surfers out of the water. Wave action was greater this morning than this evening. These photos were taken after 5pm today.

Down our way...near Eastern Lake...the surf is depositing lots of sand on the shore.

In the photo above, the water washed away about 15 horizontal feet of sand in the hour prior to the photo being taken. Originally Posted by GVM

How's the weather down there? Do we need to come down and check things out? Do you think our walkover will need repairing (for the second time this month)?

Around noon today, the waves are still approx 5'-6', about the same as yesterday evening.

Not sure when this photo was taken, but I know there were some Quicksilver Pro Surfers with camera crews out there the last few days shooting video and photos. My guess is the waves were breaking much better than this for the last two days over in the Amazons.

Yay - our beach walkover survived Rita! The surf is all the way to the edge of the cliff (former dunes) at Seagrove, and the waves are big.

Blue Mtn Beach, at the CR 83 access is missing probably one verticle foot of sand from the beach.

Katie Blue is probably dead on once again. The levels of sand probably is give or take depending on the location. I wonder if the new sea walls in Blue Mtn Beach are causing more sand erosion.

I don't leave the house in Oct for all the known reasons. Plus, I don't know much about nature other than I enjoy it. However, there is a cool, organized nature event happening next month, involving hiking, kayaking, and some other cool stuff.
