Re: mind blower...
I was finally able to get her to spin the opposite direction, at will, by focusing on one of the corners of my computer monitor.

Re: mind blower...
Paula, I found it when searching for images of "dirty santa." I found a great card in the images of Santa pooping down a chimney with a caption something like, "You know if you've been naughty when..." I clicked on the link, and it took me to a website which had this, but the card on which I clicked had been removed -- probably the Santa Police confiscated it.

Re: mind blower...
I love reading the comments. One thing I notice which we do, is that we think that we are controlling the way she spins. She simply spins, with or without our willing her to do so. Even in my description in the prior sentence, I note, "she simply spins." In reality, it is merely a two-dimensional figure created by a series of images and she isn't spinning at all. I love this kind of stuff.

Re: mind blower...
Nope, but I do remember Echelon creating a website of a mock house, which they set up with internet controls on things such as lights and blinds. They set up live webcams in the rooms, and you could go to their site and open and close the blinds and turn on and off the lights. Echelon sold the controls and switches. I haven't heard more about the company in the last 8 years, but with the right security, it might be a very cool thing. Can't remember if you turned off the iron, or locked the front door, or shut the window? Check your crackBerry to see if you did. If you didn't, click a few buttons and Wah-La! You're set.

Re: mind blower...
I did it! I feel so proud...

I had to *blur* my vision until I was almost cross-eyed, like I was looking at a Magic Eye picture (which I could never see either) and it worked... until I blinked.

Re: mind blower...
My husband can make it change back and forth, he said if you watch the shadow instead of the dancer, it changes for him to counter, then he went back to watching the dancer and she went clock wise.
I still can't make it change.

Re: mind blower...
Hmmm...I just watched her change to counter clockwise, then back to clockwise.

Re: mind blower...
Funniest thing just happened. Yes, I was staring at her once again. Then all of a sudden she stopped spinning and one leg was directly in front of the other. Me: "Oh my gosh, how'd I do that????"
....

.
A few seconds later...
Computer: "Firefox has just installed an update and you must restart..."

Re: mind blower...
I can make her switch directions almost at will now... I have to blur my vision and look off to the upper-right or lower-right side of the screen, and she switches to counter-clockwise. When I look directly at her standing-leg foot, she goes back to clockwise.
I think a big part of being able to see it has to do with believing it is possible. Before I ever witnessed her spinning counter-clockwise, I kept thinking "there is no way, she's going clockwise and that's it!"
This is really cool, on so many levels - Thanks SJ!
(I'm going to look at some magic eye pictures now, maybe I'll finally be able to see one...)

Re: mind blower...
try as I might, I can't make her go CCW. been at it all morning.
funny thing though, the left brain descriptors are me, not the right brain descriptors.
does this mean that my brain is cross wired?
oh yeah, and she is nekid!!!
or is she fully clothed and my cross wired brain makes her look nekid?
but if I saw her going CCW, would she have clothes on?
and why does she bounce up and down slighly?

Re: mind blower...
Today I'm only seeing her go clockwise. The other day ( it was on the aol homepage) I saw her go counter clockwise. I can't make her change today either. I guess I should have made my ornament last week when I was more left-brained!

I used da Google cause I is no brained. So what does the spinning dancer tell us? The whole test is more of an optical illusion than anything else, according to Steven Novella, an academic clinical neurologist at Yale University School of Medicine who blogs on NeuroLogica. When our brains process visual images to make some order or sense of the world, they have to make assumptions. The dancer is just a two dimensional image switching back and forth, but our brains process it as a three dimensional spinning object.

Re: mind blower...
Or is it really a person?
and what if your left and right brains are perfectly balanced? does it (she/he) stand still?
and what if your brain atttributes don't really match, could the top half go one way and the bottom half go the other?

Re: mind blower...
holy qa-winky-dink batman! That is crazy! Definetly a right brainer here, but somewhat interesting how majority of the time that i was looking at her she was moving clockwise but for brief blips she would change and move counter! Then when i tried the "close the eyes, concentrate, and look again" I could make her spin which ever way i liked! Too cool....so there really is some truth to "change your thoughts, change your world"....hmmmm...
thanks SJ, that was a nice reminder

Re: mind blower...
No matter how many times I watch her and how long I stare at her she is always spinning clockwise for me. Funny most left brain/right brain tests I have taken say I am a left brain thinker. Go figure.

Re: mind blower...
She is spinning slower and doesn't seem as "perky" today. Is this a result of my perception being altered or my coffee not kicking in yet
