    Dachshund back problems

My friends dachshund is having back problems and is looking for a vet who might specialize in this. She is located in the Seagrove beach area. Any suggestions?

I don't know if they specialize in back problems for Dachshunds, but Dr Amy Williams at Kindness Pet Hospital, located at the west end of 30-A north and adjacent to Butler Elementary school, is a great vet. Her partner is Dr Susan Petro.

    Kindness Pet Hospital

If they cannot help you, they should know someone who can.

Not something to fool around with. They are very prone to intervertebral disc disease and rupture. Surgery may be required. Not a lot of us every day vets do that type of surgery. Your best be is to see a board certified veterinary surgeon. This may require going to a specialty practice or a university ie UofF or Auburn.

Yikes! We have a Welsh Corgi with that long back like a Dachsund. How prone are they to this disease? We keep her relatively trim (for a Corgi) and she gets a couple walks daily, but I'm sure could use more exercise.

You got me a tad concerned now.

i don't see a lot of Corgi's with back problems. I'm not sure of their incidence. I don't have a lot of corgi's in my practice.

I'd pay to see that! We have a lot of Jack Russell Terrier races here- they are hilarious.

Jessifunn looks like a corgie. Long back...short legs. Do you have back problems?

My little dachsund, Dudley, suffered with his back several months ago. The vet gave him steroids and they did the trick. Lucky for him he was good as new in a week or so. He's getting old, though, and can't run as fast as he used to, can't hear very well and sleeps all the time. He gets the royal treatment around the house because he so sweet.

Today my son and I went to the pet store and got out a little brown and white spotted dachshund to play with. We was soooo cute and little and fun. We're allergic so we have a toy poodle but she's not much of a man's dog so my son likes to go and "try out" others as he calls it.

I corgi's! I grew up with a cardigan corgi and she was the best dog ever. Met us at the bus stop every day after school! When we were thinking about getting a dog we went to a breeder to see if we were allergic to corgi's. Both my daughter and I were sneezy and itchy and wheezy afterwards. We were so bummed. I have to settle for my welsh corgi "Ginger the Nintendog".

I wish you were able to have one.

We got our corgi because her previous owner's grandaughter was allergic to her. She was a year old and it was so hard to watch the tears come to that man's eyes when we drove off with her. He told us she was perfect and she really is!

I'm in love with your dog!

We had a neighbor boy who was obsessed with her. He wanted a corgi but he wanted HER! He even built his valentine robot for school to look like her!

We've had beagles before (one very affectionate one) but they tend to run off. Corgis will stand at the door and want back in!

OK- I love dog threads. I'm glad we have a "board-certified" vet (this board ) now that Cottontop has jumped inot the fray!

So I have a cute true dog story-

My son's friend has a Brittany Spaniel. I don't mean to offend any Brittany owners, but the ones I have dealth with are goofy, but very sweet. Anyway, when Patch the Brittany runs out the front door, he won't come in if his name is called, treats are offered, etc.

BUT, if you stand in the front doorway with the door open and ring the doorbell, he will race back inside the house to bark at whoever rang the doorbell. I about wet my pants the first time I saw it.
