Re: SEC hockey-not a misprint!!!
If Alabama-Huntsville can compete successfully at the NCAA D1 level, no reason why the SEC schools couldn't if the will and financial committment was there. Get a good structure in place, and the college bound juniors from Medicine Hat and Moose Jaw would probably jump at a chance to spend winters in Athens or Baton Rouge.
And the IIHF has a lot of member countries you'd never expect. South Africa even earned a promotion to the World B pool this spring in a C level tournament that featured Mongolia, North Korea, Greece, Turkey, and Luxemborg. (Though the United Arab Emirates and Namibia seem to register for the odd roller hockey tournament)

Re: SEC hockey-not a misprint!!!
I played for GA State back in 84 - 86 in the ACHA. All of the teams that will be in the SEC league were in the ACHA along with Auburn, Duke, UNC, SC, NC State, Emory, and a couple others. All were club teams at the time, and we paid for everything out of our own pockets. Ga State had a crazy good team. We actually played UA - Hunstville and tied them. We also played a two game series against the University of Maryland. We tied the first and beat them in the second. They were flabbergasted! All the teams waned for a while, but it's good to see the interst pick back up. There are enough northern transplants that the level of play should be pretty good...
