Spec home sales are crazy

South Walton - Emerald Coast Association of Realtors (ECAR) spokesperson Trish Haley says that nostalgia for mobile homes drove historical new crappy spec home sales figures in 2004.

Newly released data from ECAR shows buyers were willing to pay high prices for crappy speculative housing, causing speculation itself among local realtors that demand along the Emerald Coast is related more to the buying public's love for really crappy spec houses rather the sun and surf.

"We used to think that people were willing to pay high dollar for owning a piece of paradise, but we now know that buyers just want a newly built crappy spec house. Location isn't that important," said Haley.

"Our research seems to indicate that there's an attachment to old Florida, the Florida of yester year. It's this nostalgia for mobile homes that's driving the current market for crappy spec homes."
