Teens Break into Home to Party

Juveniles break into South Walton home, hold party
    June 16, 2008 - 10:35AM

Six juveniles and two men who decided to party on the beach, are now charged on various counts of theft and alcohol possession after they broke into a house that didn't belong to them, according to a Walton County Sheriff's Office press release.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office received a call on June 12, around 6:49 a.m. about two vehicles parked in a driveway on Surfside Drive in Santa Rosa Beach that did not belong there. The caretaker called the absentee homeowner and was told no one was suppose to be at his residence. He requested the caretaker to call the sheriff's office and gave permission for authorities to enter the residence.

When deputies arrived they found four juveniles ages 14, 15, 16 and 17 and two other males who were 18. Officers were told that one of the juveniles had invited the other seven over to the residence to drink and swim in the pool and later to spend the night. The seven other individuals were under the impression that the residence belonged to the juvenile's stepfather, according to a spokesman for the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

The owner is not related to the juvenile.

All eight were transported to the Walton County Sheriff's South Walton Sub-Station. The 15-year-old female juvenile, of Santa Rosa Beach, who claimed the owner was her stepfather was charged with one count of burglary, theft of the alcohol from inside the residence and possession of alcohol by person under the age of 21.

All of the juveniles were charged with possession of alcohol by person under the age of 21.

One of the 18-year-olds, of Miramar Beach, was charged with possession of alcohol by person under the age of 21 and also with one count of petit theft. A 17-year-old male juvenile was also charged with one count of petit theft.

Investigators continue to look into the matter and additional charges are pending.
