Hogs near Publix
Driving from where I live in Seagrove toward Seaside, I never expected to see what I did last night. Arriving at the stop light between Seagrove and Seaside, I turned north to head toward Publix and immediately I saw two fairly healthy sized Hogs patrolling the side of the road.
I've heard of hogs being in this area, but have to say that I was surprised to see them where I did. They were basically across from the Market Cafe. About a month ago I saw a coyote on the same road, but more toward higway 98. Just thought I'd mention it, as I know we have many nature lovers here along 30a. I think this may have scared anyone walking the bike path in the area if they'd come across it

WOW! Never seen them south of 98. Once we were having a little picinic at Eden Gardens and we heard the most God awful squeeling noises not too far to the east of us. Scared Lil' FFF so bad we packed up and left! Ok, she was much smaller then, but she still remembers it to this day.

I remember Hogs and wild Boar eating out of the dog dish outside the house where we lived in Grayton. The hogs were branded, and belonged to people who just let them run. I haven't seen any hogs in quite a while, somebody said they had been randomly slaughtered and left on the side of the road. I have seen 2 or 3 dead boar in the past couple of years.

Those feral hogs are a pain in the butt
for forestry. They eat longleaf pine seedlings, among other things.

Doesnt surprise me. A guy i work with reported having to stop on 30A near the Y at Resort Quest to let a mom and several small ones cross the road. They are probably being run from the habitat they they mainly stayed in (WaterSound North) due to construction.

were these wild hogs? or domestic?
-
It was dark and a brief siting, but no, they were not the domesticated variety. I've seen hogs in forests before, and that's what these were. I am constantly in the woods and while I've seen probably over 100 snakes of which, I've pictured a few on this site, but I've only seen a couple deer in the woods. I see tons of tracks in the woods and have seen plenty, plenty deer on the side of 98 and the connecting roads at night along with a coyote, this was my first hog seen here.

I'd rather have hogs than bears -- just this week a bear was spotted in the neighborhood next door.
(Although as I type this I realize that I have no idea if wild hogs are dangerous or not!)

OH yea....they can get very mean ....particularly the moms if they have little ones around. I know a guy that had a flat tire years ago near where Watersound North is now and one kept him in his truck for hours. Everytime he would get out to change the tire she would come charging out of the woods and he would have to get back in his truck. I would imagine it was pretty scary at the time but we all just laughed our
off.

We've seen foxes and coyote in that area, and saw a ton of deer driving along 98 several nights back in April between 331 & Seagrove. I figured hogs were deep in the Pt. Washington State Forest, because I've seen odd little hoof tracks that look different from those of deer. I figured they kept to themselves back there, so I'm surprised these little piggies went to Market. Perhaps the third one had already gotten upset and gone all the way home...

"We grow Hogs, children and fleas". Hog farms were everywhere! Hogtown Bayou????They're everywhere, rootin'!!! I have a friend in Choctaw that captures and releases on hunting land. I used to live in Val'p and had an old guy that would just sit and talk for days about stuff like that. He was a photographer, so there were pictures to go with the stories.

I grew up in Dune Allen and it was common to see wild hogs and sometimes little piglets running down the road.

Yea, I hate when wild animals roam through the neighborhood.
