    Destin Beach Restoration

I know this is not the Destin forum, but I am so angry. I read in The Destin Log that 'they' are going ahead with the Beach Restoration using brown/gray sand. I am sick about it. Destin has made so many bad decisions. Does someone know why they can't find white sand like they used in the restoration done last year??? I am puzzled.

Why don't you call up the reporter who wrote the story and ask him/her?
Also find out if there have been public hearings, if the Munsell scale is being used, what stretch of beach is being restored, what stage the permitting is in, etc, if these facts have not been covered in the paper.
If I were you I would also find out who at the Okaloose TDC is running the show. Get a handle on the whole process and then maybe you can figure out where it went wrong. A decision like this has been in the works for a while, I'm sure.

If what you say happens, Destin must not be thinking about the tourists who come here specifically for the white sand beaches. Guaranteed, the number of tourists will drop with the change in color on the beach.
When the little ones can't sit and play in the sand because it is too hot, they will go somewhere else.

You gotta hand it to Okaloosa county, they've found a way to make Destin uglier.

It's all about the money, cheep, cheep, cheep Destin. The hack with us who have to look at it all the time.

I would like to think that our TDC has more on the ball when it comes to our CASH COW the beachs of South Walton!

I frequent the Destin Pointe area (where the Gulf and East Pass meet) which is very pretty - two wetland lakes in there and a pretty, secluded, quiet neighborhood and they want to screw it up by depositing brown/gray sand. It is enough to drive me out and I am sure others if they do that. The beaches need to be restored but not at the price of devaluing the properties and making the beaches ugly. The council must be run by idiots. They restored Crystal Beach and they used white sand. What gives? Is it really the cost or just stupidity?

No, it will not bleach out in the sun. It is either our pure white quartz sand or it isn't. It is either mostly siliciclastics or it isn't. At least we here in SoWal (South Walton of Walton County includes Sandestin, Miramar Beach all the way to Inlet Beach) are east of Destin, Okaloosa County and it'll mostly be the poor folks to the west that will get their drifting dirty looking sand. We do have to worry about subprime stuff Panama City Beach, Bay County puts out as it can drift our way.
