Our Family Is Moving there in Nov! Suggest an area

Hi everyone! ive never done this before (talk on a forum or move to another state!) crazy huh? Please send your feedback on a great area (we have 3 kids)

my husbands job is relocating to the area (from st. louis) and since he works out of our home, I have the awesome job of choosing our specific area to live!!! i think this is going to be the adventure of a lifetime, we are so excited!
We have our heart set on living very close to the beach, probably within walking distance. we are coming down in 2 weeks (without the kids) to take 3 days and find our new home!! i think we'll know it when we feel it. any suggestions on which area to start when we get there??. (we are looking from ft. walton beach but not quite down to panama city) we will be renting for 12 months. i hear water color is gorgeous but a little upscale. our budget is about $1700 a month. we have a 4 lb. yorkie, and would love a 3-4 bedroom beach house!!

WOW!! Lucky you. You definitely should find a place along 30A. We have great schools here too. Stay away from the Destin area, summer traffic on 98 is horrible. It gets busy here in the summer, but nothing like FWB and Destin. Oh...and there are lots of beach accesses here, you won't find that anywhere else. Good luck and welcome!!!

I would suggest looking in Point Washington - further from the beach (still only a 10 minute drive), but near the bay. They just moved the montessori school there too.

Do you mean an area like Ft Walton or Destin or Santa Rosa Beach? Or have you decided on SRB and need a neighborhood to concentrate on? Do you want to be near the businesses and box stores or out where life is slow and peaceful?

I moved down here about 6 years ago from an area South of St. Louis, and it didn't take me long to figure out I wasn 't moving back! Anywhere in South Walton is excellent to live. You may want to contact Mathews Properties at 850-267-0220 to see what they have available.....oh you'll love it here in the summer time heat & humidity like Missouri, but you don't feel the effects cause there's ALWAYS a breeze blowing! Short winters too!

Hi Carolyn -

I just read your post from The Fall and we have almost the EXACT situation as you.

We'll be relocating to the Destin / S. Walton area in June when my girls get out of school. (They'll be 5 & 6) We're coming down the first week of April to meet with agents, look at schools, check out different areas etc.

Looking to rent for 1-2 years before we buy.

Do you have any advice???

Welcome to the area. And yes Pt. Washington is a great place to live. A lot of history in these parts.
