New Jellyfish
Does anyone know of this new jellyfish seen recently in our waters? Last weekend on the beach and Friday in the Gulf, pick tentacles, resembles pink insulation on the beach.
I've been here all my life and this is a new one.Apathy is a dominate gene, mutate!

We saw these big jellyfish last week. I googled pink jellyfish and saw some articles about "pink meanies" being in the gulf and they eat other jellyfish. I don't know if these are the same or not but here is my picture.

An, some of them are HUGE. I saw one that was at least 3 feet in diameter! My dog swam right through/over it and wasn't hurt. Does anyone know if their stings are painful to humans?

I'd like to know what type the one was we saw earlier this year in the water. It was about 10 to 15 feet out. It was pretty large and black looking.

This subject is going to be featured on 30a Television very soon. It is time that the TDC and or the county turned their attention on this subject
Jellyfish in this area have been on the rise for some time
Guess what eats Jellyfish and are on the decline
Turtles
It is now time for a turtle "farm" where turtles can be raised here in local waters, and tagged for tracking - growth - and released (where they will return and breed)
and eat the jellyfish that could threaten the visitor numbers at particular times of the year
It would be money well spent as well as a great model to show we care totally about the beach dwellers not just token things like moving a tent (which is a must too of course)

The population increase is global.
The decline in the sea turtle population is also global. All species of sea turtles around the world are declining.
Our oceans are out of balance.
Lady D, what you saw might have been one of the big pink ones. From a distance and when the sun is shining brightly, they do look black. The first big pink one I saw, I first thought it was a ray. Then as I got closer, I thought it was two rays and one of them had been gutted.
Then I got even closer and I realized it was a big pink jelly casting an enormous dark shadow.
I had a nice swim yesterday and saw no jellies at all, one of only a few jelly-free days since spring.
