Grayton Beach Report - Dec 18 2005
Oooh, the water is emerald green and flat as a pancake with an occasional curl falling over at the shore line. The beach has a layer of darker sand on top at the moment, and it makes for a wonderful picture. Two people walking on the beach, hand-in-hand enjoy the solitude of the open beach as well as the company of each other. What a photo. Seagulls and a few Pelicans are clustered in the green shallow water only a few yards off the beach. A shell or two remain undisturbed, without even a footprint nearby. The sky is overcast with darker, low-level clouds, and the air temp is a cool 53F degrees. Water temp is about 72F degrees and there is a slight wind out of the north north west. Just another beautiful and peaceful day at the beach. The Red Bar should be open for business by now, but the small crowd today will be mostly locals. The beach towns are mostly empty as shoppers wrap up their Christmas shopping. Today is a great day to be here, with no place to go and all day to get there.

Thanks for the report. I feel as though I'm there, sitting at the water's edge & I can smell the saltwater ~

Sounds like a very good plan to me.
The light is so different this time of year. I think that's interesting to see.

Thanks for the wonderful beach photos and verbal description of the beach. It is a much-needed contrast to the real estate and brown sand discussions!

Me, too! How much more funn is it to be a poster than a lurker???? Answer...TONS more funn! So to all the lurkers...make a New Years resolution (hate those unless it's for SoWal.com) to join in the funn! If you are skeered...PM someone you see and I know they will help you through it!!

SJ.. Can I leave you a drink gift certificate at your favorite SoWal place for all the wonderful photos? Each time I open up a sunset or shore picture I am filled with a tranquil peace. It is like Buffet sings "A magic kind of medicine no doctor could prescribe." Keep clicking.

Cap'nCrazy! You are a brave man to join us. Merman keeps resisting even though I tell him he doesn't have to go into the Lounge unless he wants to.

That I believe! I want Merman to join in so he can read the serious posts on the real estate pages, the ones that go over my head. He needs to follow SHELLY's posts more thoroughly than me so when the prices at the beach drop by half, we'll be poised to jump and I'll get another condo...oh wait, maybe that's why Merman won't join...it might cost him!!!

Re: Grayton Beach Report - Dec 18 2005
Hey, today the guy at Tourneau at Lenox repaired my daughter's watch (new battery) for no charge. I asked him if it was a "Pay It Forward" thing. He said that he'd been mean to people in the past and just wanted to do something nice.

Re: Grayton Beach Report - Dec 18 2005
Question...what is the deal with Houston's and P.F. Changs??? Why do people wait 1-2 hours for food? Well, I have for the Red Bar crab cakes, but that's different. Mr. K and I were at the mall the other night and a clerk told us the wait was 1 hr and 45 min for a table at P.F. Changs...that was at 8:30 pm!!!

We have a new Changs- and it does take reservations, but then the turnoff for me is fighting my way through the crowd to get to the hostess stand to announce my arrival. You would think the Pope himself had opened up a restaurant. It's been open for a few months, but we finally went the other day when we drove by and noticed there was nobody wandering the parking lot or hanging around the door. No wait (Sat. afternoon 1:30), and I just had soup.
Big spender. (Actually it was the day everyone on here, including me, was battling the cold- soup was perfect)
The restaurant I really don't get is Cheddars- never been there, but from the outside it looks like people are busting out of every opening. 2 hour waits are common. From what I have seen of the menu- salads, burgers, pasta.
Waiting for that?
Y'all are all welcome to eat at my house anytime- I won't make you stand in the front yard for 2 hours, but I may grill you a burger.

Re: Grayton Beach Report - Dec 18 2005
Two Hours? The only time you would see me waiting in line for two hours to eat would be if I had no food and I was waiting on the Red Cross food line. In two hours, I can go to the grocery store, shop, come home, cook a three course meal, and eat. I never understood that crap either.
BTW, watch out for the valet parking guys at Houston's across from Lenox. They have been known to take things out of vehicles.
