    large pavillion

Did anybody see the front page of the Daily News? The pavillion they are building is positively obscene. It is touching the Gulf! It is mind-boggling that anyone would want to build anything that close to a force of nature that powerful and obnoxiuously irritating that any body of "government" would let them do so. Please keep all the nuts and flakes in Destin.
My mind tends to wander... but fortunately, it's so weak, it doesn't get very far...

How about a link or a pic? Where is it being built?

It's on the front page of the Northwest Florida Daily News, Sunday Edition. I guess no one reads newspapers any more...

Nope - and it has saved a lot of trees!

I have people that do that for me and alert me of any interesting articles or appearances by people we know.

This is a photo of the pavillion they are building at Jetty East, Destin. What is wrong with this picture?

I wouldn't worry much about it, the next good sized storm, it'll be gone!

I don't think that's a new pavillion they're building....it's an old pavillion that once was built on a beach that has since disappeared. The tape and barricades were put there to keep people off of it and to keep it from collapsing entirely--until the taxpayers pony up the money to replace the sand, again, and again, and again.

But hey...Top Ramen tastes a whole lot better when you eat it off of a Granite Countertop. (Mr & Mrs Too Much Homebuyer)

What's $60 million for some sand among friends?

Shelly: you're probably right. They built it somewhere somewhat inland but it still was no more than three feet above sea level.

You can see the pavillion in this link and how far away it was from the water before the sand and surf does what the sand and surf will do:

The pavillion at Jetty East Condo has been there for about 35-40 years. You must be a transplant to this area. I was born and raised in Destin and that pavillion used to sit 100 yards from the waterline about 15 years ago. It is a tragedy what has happened to my once sleepy fishing village but I assure you there are nuts and flakes all over this area.

I completely misinterpreted the photo in the Daily News. Although I've lived in this area for more years than I care to count, I have had little desire to go out to Holiday Isle since we had bondfires on that sand bar in the sixties. It's a sand bar folks. Enough said.
