Route from Montgomery
Is it quicker to just get on 331 and travel start down from Montgomery....
-or- stay on I65 and take the Greenville, Garland, Evergreen, or .... exit and cut across to another route??

I like 331. It's a good road with places to pass and nice countryside. Just my opinion...never traveled the other way.

Or go 231 to Troy, 87 to Elba, 189 to Kinston, left on 52 to AL 153. Turn right. This turns into FL83 and takes you right into DeFuniak where you can hit 331. Great route. Few in any cars or traffic. Nice scenery.

Well I'm all about scenry and staying awake especailly when I hit the last 4 hour lag of a 14 hour trip.... so we'll stick with the 331 since coming around Montgomery from the west. Guess hwy is open and no huge construction delays!? Plus so dang anxious to finally get there....it's hard to control the speed pedal :O) I'll just have to try to control myself.

I live in Montgomery and make the trip quite a few times a year. I used to always go straight 331 until florala. The last 6 or 7 times I have gone interstate 65 through andalusia then to florala. The 4 lane is alot safer for most of the journey and they are the same time getting down to the beach. There is even some 4 lane after the interstate.
Going south, where the waters warm, the drink are cold and I don't know the names of the players.

It also depends on which end of the beach you're bound for. From Atlanta to Inlet Beach, we take 231 from Montgomery to the outskirts of Troy, then 167, 87 and 83 to 20, six miles east on 20 to 79 and south from there to 98 west. That way, we don't have to double back from 331.

That's the route I take every time. It seems to be the quickest and you miss the hassle and traffic in Montgomery getting to 331. Get me through Montgomery as quickly as possible please.
Take along satellite radio or cd's or Ipod cause the radio stations are few and far between out there. No cell coverage either so tell your peeps not to worry if they don't hear from you.Quit whining and RUN!!

Georgianna exit #114 off I-65. 31/55 to Andalusia (almost all of it at 65 mph speed limit). Bypass around west side of Andalusia, pick up 55 again to Florala. 331 the rest of the way.
We adore Seagrove and Topsail Hill

i take georgiana ext to andalusia then take Al 137 (becomes Fl 189) to MIlligan and crestview. then take 85 to Niceville then to the toll 293 over to Destin. Taking this route from chattanooga TN to destin, i have driven the entire trip in 6 hours 15 minutes. One stop for gas! usually wit hthe family it takes 7 and some change. This route from Montgomery usually has no traffic and not many towns with red lights! I ahve noticed more traffic in the last few years but still beats 331 to Destin maybe not to Sowal.
