    Bear on 30A

My neighbor reports seeing a bear hustling down the bike path last night near Camp Creek.

It must not be a Watersound owner - I woulda thunk they were bulls.

It's not enough that I gotta watch out for gators, water moccasins, rattlesnakes, coyotes, bobcats, birds of prey, coons, possums, fire ants and wasps in my 'hood, now I hafta add BEARS to the list, sheesh! How does anyone ever live to adulthood in these parts?

At least the feral pigs are cute, from a distance.

Just wait until the gov't reintroduces the Florida Panthers to our area. (not presently on the agenda for South Walton, but who knows?)

The giant insane wild boars are never cute, even from a distance. Military legend says a particularly nasty Baltic or Russian boar was introduced in the area in the 1940s to scare interlopers away from Eglin test sites. The bears can be very cute.

I think the worst of it at work was last fall when they were clearing the construction site for a big new building, and the result was a more than usual number of snakes found in nearby buildings. (Yes, we do have a usual unintentionally indoor snake count number for non-construction years) While the 'Be Bear Aware' flyer from FWC that got sent around when we had a couple youngins dumpster diving a while back was rather cute, instruction sheets on how to identify whether the snake in your office is poisonour or not were decidedly less amusing.

Does everyone love Hibiscus? Does a wild bear *&^% in the woods?

Leave him out a waffle with honey.

    Oh My Cheri!

I didn't really think I saw it at first, but I too saw a black bear in the back of our house behind Sea Dunes near a road that leads down toward the back of Sugar Drive. Many of our trash cans on the street have been turned over and the plastic bags have been pulled out. Ours was not even on the street. I thought it was raccoons as it needed a strong pair of fingers to open the top of it.

What is Wild Life saying about these sightings? Has anyone heard?

Thanks everyone .. you are ALL soooo sweet..

I'd leave the bear some waffles & honey but Jean takes all our scraps home to her chickens. There's just not much in our garbage cans anymore other than broken down boxes and dirty napkins.....

maybe this is the same bear that's been after Barretts honey!
