Wedding horror/sweet stories?
So here I am, less that 4 months to go until my wedding and apart from some mild family frustrations, we haven't had any major blowouts or vendor catastrophes or anything of the sort...yet. And, I think I have refrained from any bridezilla episodes.
Anyone have any good wedding planning stories? Anything unusual happen at a wedding you attended?

Re: Wedding horror/sweet stories?
Congratulations, Lucky13!
I didn't know you were getting married.
I have seen some mildly crazy things happen at wedding receptions, but nothing worth reporting. I feel almost certain that after reading some people's post-to-come could scare you out of the wedding.
After re-reading your thread title, I am reminded of one wedding reception I worked where a guy, obviously in an existing relationship with one of the Bride's Maids, proposed to her during the reception. The Bride was furious because she thought that it was unappropriate because this was "her" day. The Bride's Maid was very happy and excited, until she found out that her "friend," The Bride, was pissed and no longer talking to her. After that incident, the entire talk of the reception was about the Bride's Maid upstaging the reception (like the Bride's Maid was the one who popped the question.)
I say let love flow where it may, when it may.

Re: Wedding horror/sweet stories?
The best wedding we ever attended was billed as an engagement party/shower. When we arrived, there was a big tent, beuatiful food, etc., but didn't suspect a thing. We just thought the hosts had planned the most elaborat e engagement party ever! Suddenly, everyone was asked to gather at the tent, and the bride walked out of the house - she had quickly changed into a beautifully simple wedding dress. The crowd went wild!
I loved my own wedding to Bdarg- second marriage. Planned by us in 2 days, in my grandmother's rose garden. My old cattle dog stood with me as my "bridesmaid". Just immediate family and a supermarket cake with pansies on top. My dad was practically moved to tears of joy that my mom hadn't been able to plan a second "extravaganza"!!

Oh that is a major no-no. That is what we call "stealing a bride's thunder" and that's almost worse than burning a flag.

Anywho, this chick married an awful guy. Her sister- a bridesmaid who was 10 months pregnant...huge, full of water and baby- barely stayed in the wedding. My friends were miserable- you could see it in their face, and the parents were just staying in it to save gossip. Well at the reception I went to congratulate them- never met the guy. Walked in on an argument, he called me a c-word, I called him a *ickless prick and continued to drink their cheap wine and eat their shrimp. It was a real mess. Everyone was just cringing. When they left, everyone (family- she had shunned most of her friends through her relationship with this guy) was crying. Not to mention she has a violent eating disorder and he's manic. Sooo you tell me who's to blame. I went more or less to see if she'd back out before the wedding. As did my parents and the Phead74.
God speed Lucky13! No real nightmare stories though."Let's face it: We live in state infested with rubes and rednecks, particularly among Alabama football fans."- Paul Finebaum

Re: Wedding horror/sweet stories?
I had a hangover at my wedding. Us gals had a rip roaring night out after the rehearsal dinner...the guys wished they had been with us! I drank Dr. Pepper at my reception.
So, my word to the wise...don't do the bachelorette thing the night before your wedding.Which community along 30A shall we pillage this evening?....gttbm

Re: Wedding horror/sweet stories?
This is funny...not so much sweet or horror involved. At my second marriage we went the cheap route and got married at the Court House in Mobile. So, after you fill out all the paperwork, you take a number. When your number is displayed on a big digital monitor you go into the judges chambers and he marries you. Guess what our number was? 69. I have a picture of it and will post sometime. My dear best friend who was there with me thought to take a picture of it. We laughed so hard!!!!

Re: Wedding horror/sweet stories?
Kathy's courthouse wedding story reminded me of my first wedding - I'd almost forgotten. My ex was a foreigner - from Syria. His English was good, but he was so nervous about the vows. The judge we went to actually went with a pretty lengthy ceremony and Ali was sure he would mess up and misspeak. He ended up doing fine. All except for the part when the judge asked for the rings and Ali handed him a pen. At least it was a nice Cross pen - for years we referred to it as "the wedding pen."

What a good one! Merman and I were married in the rose garden at the Longfellow House outside of Boston. By the local sheriff. When the vows were done, he asked to be paid, so my dear sweet new husband whipped out his checkbook. His out-of-state checkbook. The sheriff said he didn't take Rebel checks so Merman had to panhandle a couple of bucks off every wedding guest!

We supplied her with a ribbon that she/we thought was "powerline proof????" NO warnings about it containing metalic particles that might cause fireballs as they crossed powerlines!!! Holy Cow
!!! Once those 150 balloons got released over those lines....YIKES! Thankfully there were no major issues other than the power being knocked out at the college campus and the church...(which made for alot of creativity from the photographer since there were no more photos to be done back inside the church!!!!) BUT...
Remember J & N's (son #1) wedding day?????
March 2000...
We had a gorgeous early Spring...the daffodiles, tulips & forsythia were already in bloom...We had all the expectations of a "picture perfect" spring wedding day...
And woke up the morning of the wedding to 10 Inches of SNOW!!!!!
Sooooo, Lucky....even with all our plans and expectations....a wedding is very much a mirror of a marriage....it's more about the unexpected and how we respond....rather than our often unrealistic expectations!!!!

Re: Wedding horror/sweet stories?
when my sister got married, she had these bridesmaid dresses that laced up the back so you couldn't wear a bra. i got one of those sticky bras that adhere to the skin because these twins cannot be set free. oh my god - in the space of 3 hours when i tried to peel it off, it had eaten all my skin off where the adhesive was, it looked like raw bloody meat. i should've known with my sensitive skin not to do that, but oh well, live and learn. i had actually forgotten about this until we were talking about her wedding the other night.
