    Green Stuff in the Water

We are originally from MS but lived in OK for the last several years. We came down here Feb 2008 for a month and stayed six months. We love it here. We finally have been able to move here permanent.

I am an IT Consultant (computer guy) and Kimberly makes the best Hot Tamales you have ever tasted. I guess we are networking our skills in the Destin, PCB, and 30A areas.

What is up with the green stuff in the water around the beach. We did not see that last year. What is it called and when is it going away.

We are so glad to be a part of your community.

    Thanks for having us...

Russ and Kimberly! Forgive us, but I think someone asks about the green stuff at least once a day. The green stuff needs it's own stickie! Use the search thing and type in June Grass of green stuff...lots of good answers there!
Which community along 30A shall we pillage this evening?....gttbm

It is a type of algae called June Grass, it comes and goes in the Summer months. I understand most people don't like it, but I love to swim in it (makes me feel like a sea creature). The thicker the better. It is surprisingly hard to collect and apply to the face.

But it is not good for surf fishing.

Kurt, you are so goofy! Years ago when my kids were about the same age as your boy is now, they made forts on the beach that were fortified with June grass. And you guessed it--June grass sandballs that they lobbed at each other. One of my best SoWal memories and one of the few times I wished I had a video camera.

I thought it might have been the June Grass I was reading about. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our newbie questions.
