The funniest one I've ever seen was on a wardriving site a couple of years ago. I found one on the Georgia Tech campus that was named GT President. I wonder whose wireless that was? I mean, this is the greatest technical university in the Southeast, and his wireless network was out there for anyone to wardrive.

In GA ours is the ordinality of the letter of the alphabet that corresponds to the position of the first few numbers in the Fibonacci sequence (I'm obsessed with that).

In FL it's linksys because every time we add security with a cool, non-default name, the Internet goes down, and my guess is that either someone at the rental agency or a hacker assumes it's the wireless and resets the name to linksys.

No, they're just resetting the router. To keep the security in place you have to lock up the router and have some way for the guest or maintenance to kill just the power. Hubby kept doing that for a while.

We have the router locked up in the owners closet so renters can't mess with it.

To this particular owners closet, yes, because there's a water heater, circuit panel, and AC blower in there.

So I'm thinking that the rental company have occasionally gets complaint about no Internet, so "Bubba" goes in there and power cycles the modem and resets the router.

Every time hubby fixes it back the way we want it, the next time we're there, it's back to linksys. So now we just don't bother.

I'd strongly recommend OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet. Of course if they reset it, it will go back to the standard configuration. It does allow you to restrict sites so people aren't riding through the neighborhood and downloading kiddy porn. This recently happened over in PC/PCB.
