Chat Holly will be paved in 2010
I just heard that they announced last night at the BCC meeting that we got a SCOP (Small County Outreach Program) Grant from FDOT, and they are going to use it to pave Chat Holly.
The project has to be done by December 2010, so we should see some progress in the near future.

Are they just going to blacktop Chat Holley, or are they going to rip it up, add pack dirt, compact it, and then repave? According to one of the County Engineers, paving over the existing road will make it pretty for about one year, and then the same holes will come back, because the road was not properly prepped before the existing paving job.

Chat Holley is a well used public road that is long overdue for repaving - glad to hear progress is being made!

What would that be? Homes that aren't quite luxury status or possible, gasp, a trailer or two? Sounds like we have quite the elitist on our hands.
Also they received the money in the form of a grant which you have to apply for. Generally you have to be very specific about what the money will go towards. I applaud the BCC for going after the money and taking care of a road that makes Mr. Toads Wild Ride seem like a nap on a posturepedic.

im far from an elistist but thanks anyway. im involved in this town and am all over it daily and i can tell you that there are much more emergency's than chat holley road thats for sure. i think it should be paved dont get me wrong, but now isnt the time. thankfully a grant is whats financing it. im for it, just not now.

Okay, what county road do you feel is in MORE need of paving/repaving than Chat Holley?

I used to have a job working with community development block grant funds. Part of our grant specifically had to be spent for improving the quality of life in low & moderate income neighborhoods and municipalities. We spent a lot of money on projects that were very similar to the road condition and demographics of Chat Holley.
It was also the job that convinced me that whoever came up with Davis-Bacon rules should be forced to visit an outdoor construction site in the middle of a tornado-generating severe thunderstorm in order to question the non-English speaking construction workers (notable because I know roughly 17 words of Espanol) really were making $11.17/hour for time spent operating a backhoe and $12.53/hour while operating a dump truck just to know how enforcing those suckers really feels.

The problem with Chat Holley on the East end is a lack of easement. They have to purchase additional land from adjoining property owners to meet the appropriate easement size. Regional utilities came along and cut too close to the hwy to lay lines, jeopardizing the integrity of the pavement.

There's been quite a bit of work going on lately on Chat Holley with utilities. I think they may be shifting the lines to make some room. That does seem to be a very narrow road. Treacherous in rain or at night.

They are getting ready to repair the two bridges. Work should start on the west bridge in a week or so. Jopefully detours won't be to bad.

I have lived on this road for almost 15 years.. seems they finally got it paved the first time around 1990 after col. fleet the then commisioner got tired of fighting to pave chat holley.
It has been a very well traveled raod since and is in need of attention. Emergency maybe not but needed yes. My property at 681 is in my opinion is one of the nicest im not excited about the tearup and redo but it would be nice to have a smooth road, a sidewalk,/ bike path and a feeling of some safety at night , in the rain or wide enough to tow my boat without runnin the shoulder every time a car passes. This is long ,long overdue

I sure hope they don't screw up the ditches like they did on JD Miller Rd.
