US98 Soccer wants to remind everyone that The Gulf Coast's Friendliest Outdoor Soccer Party, the 2nd Annual "Soccer by the Surf" Tournament at WaterSound, is getting closer!
This year's Tournament is being produced by the newly formed US98 Sports, and they have already secured two major sponsors, Bruno's Pizza and 98 Barbecue! So while enjoying soccer with decidedly South Walton flavor, so too will all participants have the opportunity to enjoy the delicious flavors of our local pizzeria and BBQ.
The "Soccer by the Surf" Tournament is a great fundraising opportunity for US98 Soccer, and along with local teams and local players registering and participating, US98 Soccer appreciates as much support as possible from local businesses who would like to participate as Sponsors and show their support for Local Youth Sports as well. If you are interested in a Sponsorship of this 2nd Annual Event, which is sure to grow exponentially over the years, please contact christianf@us98sports.com!

U-9: Champions - EYSA Pumas (Gadsden, AL); Runners-Up - Callaway Arsenal (Callaway, FL); 3rd Place - Soccer Academie INTER98 (South Walton, FL); 4th Place - Columbus Shooting Stars (Columbus, GA);
U-10: Champions - EYSA Pumas (Gadsden, AL); Runners-Up - PCB Gail Force (PCB, FL); INTER98 (South Walton, FL)
U-12: Champions - Champions - PCB Blast (PCB, FL); Runners-Up - INTER98 (South Walton, FL)
Apparently, the EYSA Pumas U-9 Team is ranked #1 in the state of Alabama and #3 in the state of Georgia.
Total number of out-of-state players was 36. Economic impact was between $35,000.00 - $50,000.00, with many families extending their stay beyond the tournament.
We tripled our attendance of last year, and all of the coaches said they would be bringing more teams next year, which means we will be incorporating the use of Helen McCall Park and Freeport Regional Sports Complex, as needed, with WaterSound continuing to facilitate the U-9 and U-10 groups. One of our focuses will be on attracting out-of-state teams to this tournament, who not only want to compete on the field, but enjoy the vacationing aspects of a visit to our area. The partnership with the "Summer at the Sound" event is perfect. We are extremely grateful for the St. Joe Company's and WaterSound's (especially including the residents) willingness to promote youth soccer as well as promoting the area.
Projection: If we can eventually grow this event to attract close to 30 out-of-state teams, economic impact will exceed $1 Million (for a two-day Tournament!). To that end, US98 Sports will be working closely with the Directors of Helen McCall Park and Freeport Regional Sports Complex, as well as with the County and TDC, to attract more participants.

TOURNAMENT QUOTES
What This Year's Participants Are Saying:
"...thanks for putting on a great tournament. You were extremely helpful and things were well organized. The fields are beautiful and the area is going to be amazing once its fully developed. I hope we can bring several more of our travel teams back next year and make this tournament an annual event. Thanks again for everything."
~ EYSA PUMAS (AL) U-9 Coach, James Shellnutt
"You guys did a great job welcoming us and providing what we needed to have a rich experience in our first ever tournament. Our whole intent was to prepare our team for moving up to U10, to celebrate a great run in U8, and to have some fun playing some soccer and hanging out at the beach! Your tournament provided us with all of those elements. We got the experience of almost half a season in just one weekend! We should be very prepared to move up to our U10 Girls division after this! We'll see you again next year!"
~ Columbus SHOOTING STARS (GA) U-9 Coach, Patrick Aiken
"I would like to express my extreme gratitude to Coach Yancey for an exceptional job of coaching and to Christian Franek for establishing ... a league where ALL South Walton kids can develop their soccer skills at their own pace. [My son] is a better soccer player for having participated in US98 and Inter98 leagues, but more importantly I believe he is a better person. As a parent that is all I can ask for from an athletic activity. I was proud to be a part of every minute of Inter98’s initial forays into tournament soccer. I would also like to thank all the parents who extended their friendship to me during the course of the season – you folks really saved me and often were the highlight of my day."
~ Soccer Academie INTER98 (FL) U-10 Parent, Brett BeckLast edited by US98 Sports; 06-19-2010 at 01:02 PM.
