Not so sure about that. I just saw a story in USA Today where they said that the Colorado State forcast was within 2 storms about half the time, over and under the other half. Just depends on what year you're looking at. They were, fortunately for us, over-predicting last year.

It's an indication that it will be a Disney hurricane year. Either it means they'll hit there or they'll be dropping unicorns and rainbows instead of rain and wind.

Seriously they needed to give the pronounciation for Lisa????

Both mine and my husband's name are included this year. We have a little wager on which one will be worse. I can tell you from personal experience that Lisa will be kind and considerate. But Alex may be hell on wheels!!

Note it is vir-JIN-ee and not vir-jin-YA

Speaking of hurricane season, what do guys/gals use on your windows? Hurricane glass, shutters, plywood?

Thanks and lets HOPE they have this wrong!

We don't need no stinkin' hurricanes!

We're planning new impact glass windows as part of a minor remuddle, and hopefully we'll get them in before August when the Gulf typically starts to get a little rumbly.

Shutters. The real deal, made from Spanish cedar. Heavy duty slide bolts for closure.

Hey now, watch it. That was my daddy's name.

But also a major reason that ShallowsSquirt didn't get named after him.

    You're GOOD & sensitive parents!
In '65, when my li'l bro was born, my parents 'pretended' like we older siblings could take part in naming our baby brother...
My oldest sis voted "let's name him Richard!". My father started choking "acchhhhh.. cough... choke... hack... NO son o' MINE's gonna be a Dick!"

As little kids, at the time, we didn't get 'IT'... but ultimately for most of our li'l Bro's life we've tease/tortured him about "being such a TOTAL RICHARD
(alter ego = Vonda Kay Van Dyke)!"

(Now who can tell us about Vonda K. '65???)

Oil spill and activity in Atlantic could make for 'ominous' hurricane season | al.com

Masters predicts that the 2010 hurricane season, which starts June 1 and goes through November, could be one of the five most active ever recorded. The chance of more than one named storm riding up the Gulf of Mexico, he said, is about 95 percent.

Make sure that you have your Hurricane Plan in place....could be an interesting season....

It's going to be interesting when BP tries to attribute oil landfall to a tropical system or the cancellation of reservations. At least most tourists know that an active hurricane season doesn't mean you rush out and cancel your plans.

I'll lash the Harley to the big pine tree, and park the car next to the Harley. I'll also make sure to video each and every item inside and outside my house, and hope for the best......when all else fails, make sure you have good insurance. I'm hoping the hurricane season will take care of the oil-spill problem, but in a good way.

With about 6 weeks left in the season:

15 named storms, as of Otto
    7 hurricanes
5 major hurricanes (Cat 3 or above)
Danielle, Earl, Igor, Julia, and Karl

    See this:
    Tropical Weather Summary

The large number of "fish storms" has made an otherwise active season look less busy than it actually has been.

Given how far in advance the CSU forecast comes out, they've done a pretty good job this year.

I think they are always faily close on the numbers of storms. It's the landfall predictions that burn them, but I don't really mind them getting that part wrong. I'm just not looking forward to the day that they say 1 or 2 major landfalls, and then, we get tagged with 5 or 6! It works both ways!

Exactly, I only sweat it when he says Florida's in the clear. Usually means that Miami or Ft. Lauderdale is ready for an extreme makeover.
