SoWal Meet and Greet each week?
It might be fun if SoWal members met, on Sat. nights? 8:00 pm? Bud & Alley's for drink and conversation. (When you first arrive you have to go to the beach.) During the summer mostly? Not weekly for everyone - unless they wanted to - but as we arrive for our week vacation. Put a face to a name. It's a thought. I've discovered some Louisville people on here and it would be fun to chat one evening briefly. Doesn't have to lead to life time relationships but it could! We met some good friends from Louisville on a UofL trip to South Florida back in 2003. Didn't see them in Louisville but ran into them again at Elmo's the next summer!
Counting down. Next month.

Meet and Greet
I tried a meet and greet one night and no one showed up so people would have to commit to it. I like the idea, but would prefer someplace other than in Seaside. I think that is where it is. Seaside is just so expensive and it would get to be a bit much weekly. I could be wrong, but I think that is where it is located. Let us know what you think everyone out there. Ill try again b/c I would love to meet some new friends. Brenda

A lot of Sowalers hang out at the beach for sunset everyday at Grayton Beach. If you decide to meet us, just give us a heads up and we will look for you.

There's a Key West crowd that meets for happy hour every Friday night, locals and vacationers alike and we have met the nicest people that we've stayed in touch with so I love the idea of meeting up with other SoWallers!

not a bad idea actually UofL. we've had groups meet each week for coffee at different spots, for morning get togethers - mostly local people though but not always.
a central place such as B&A's would be a good Saturday or Sunday afternoon meeting spot. lots of sowallers enjoy having a cocktail at sunset there.
another idea is to start your thread a week or so before arrival and announce a lunch place and time - asking sowallers to join you. (breakfast, lunch or dinner)
or you could do what Geo does - just announce at the very last second that he's on his way to Red Bar for a beer and who can come join him? not sure if that technique has had any success or not!?

I loved seeing some peeps last week at Red Bar. I think everyone in the restaurant was a SoWaller. What happened to the group photo?
That bloody mary was awesome at 9 AM! It's tough to "meet" people when you don't know who you're looking for though. Sometimes i just want to walk in a joint and shout "The Sunspot is here! Do I know you?"

closer2fine posted the group shot on FB. I have some good shots and have been meaning to post them on sowal in the lounge if you guys don't mind. they aren't close up shots but good enough!
yes, the Red Bar breakfast thing last week was great. the funny part was that there were 3 different groups of sowallers - at the same time.

The house we will be staying at doesn't have internet, so I take the laptop to the Amavida Coffee shop at Seaside nearly everydy. It's not so much looking at work, but to check on the front page at home and to check this and other 30A websites for news/events. (Of course, now for oil spill updates. Spill isn't quite the word anymore is it - OIL DISASTER/OIL CALAMITY.)
I did hook up with a Seaside event person during our last New Year's visit and he brought by some Seaside posters - I'm slowly redoing my house to a beach/casual look so we'll be ready when we move down there!
We've stayed at Grayton, so we'll look for you guys there at Sunset - great idea.
And I will 'announce' when we arrive, as we walk to B&A that Sat. in June. We'll wear some UL stuff so we'll stand out like a sore thumb:-)
Can't wait.
(The oil is finally getting more play in the media. The Weather Channel is almost non-stop.)

Meet and Greet
I'd be willing to meet wherever ya'll decide. Just post it ahead of time please so people will have time to prepare and show up. The last one I went to I was the only one there. Someone else did show up after I had left though I found out. Oh well, hopefully this time it will work out better. Let us know.
