    Selfish & uncaring beachgoers

I just walked this morning along the beach in Seagrove, from Greenwood to Eastern Lake & back, between 6:30 and 7:30.

I've never seen so much crap left on the beach overnight ..... chairs, tents, cans, bottles, cups, toys, fireworks trash.

I can't single out tourists -- could be full-time locals, part-timers, first-timers -- hard to know. I fear the perps will not likely be here on SoWal, tho, to hear my request that you be a little more considerate of your neighbors & of Mother Nature.

If you insist on bringing that much stuff down to the beach with you, just please take it with you when you leave, so we all have a shot at enjoying the beach... OK?

When I walk Sweet Pea on the beach, we pick up a lot of trash. Do all states have the 'Adopt a Highway' program? You volunteer and are responsible for keeping a specified area (highways, byways, roads, parks, etc) clean of trash and debris........we could implement 'Adopt a Beach' program, I suspect.

And the same people would pick up trash and the same people would leave trash.Trash breeds trash, trash comes from trash.

I know. It's rough seeing all that. This morning at BMB it was clear of "stuff" which was great.

    Hang in there!!!

Yep, I love October when the Seagrove Shanty Town disappears.

Not entirely. There were two plastic buckets and a plastic tube which was sliding in and out of the surf. A man picked up the tube and deposited it at the toe of the dune but the buckets remained. The oil workers touched none of it, and yes, I know that is not what they are paid for.

clarification ... the BSW beach patrol was cleaning up by the end of my walk ... it's some beachgoers' heads & hearts that're not hard at work, or they wouldn't dream of leaving so much crap laying around in the first place

We went to the beach to watch fireworks on the 4th and there were several volleyball nets left up. We could not see the ropes that were holding them up and one of my daughters fell over it. It is driving me nuts to see all the crap that is left. And, why is it that the BP workers get to leave their tent shell in place all the time? Do they not have to abide by the rules - I know stupid question to have BP and rules in the same sentence.

I hate to hear this. As a "wannabe" SoWal resident & for now a yearly visitor-we ALWAYS pick up anything we bring to the beach & dispose of any trash we might have; we also pick up any trash we see. I think the "trashy" people either don't care or figure someone will pick it up. Very disappointing to see trash on the beach. I guess I just figure that if you're at the beach, you must love it & should, therefore, take care of it.

Not sure, but I have already told them to stop parking their van on the bike path.

It has always amazed me that some visitors, and some locals alike, come to the beach (presumably )because of its beauty, but then leave their trash, cig butts, and dog $h1t in the sand and surf. Doesn't make sense...... Better that they stay home, blow/fill up an inflatable pool, dump in the day's trash, and enjoy.

How about Stinky's Valet Jerks stop parking cars on the bike path.

We tried to buy shrimp at their bait shop one evening a couple of weeks ago. The obnoxious valet guy ran over and put his hand on the van door so the driver could not exit the vehicle and told us we couldn't park in the lot, we had to go out and park on the path if we wanted to go in to the bait shop. Driver explained we were just running in to buy shrimp to fish. Valet would not take his hand off the door, so we left - extremely aggravated.

Why doesn't the PoPo do something about this? They pulled me over driving my golf cart.

Oh, he would've gotten his hand off my door.

I was very proud of my short tempered husband, who only yelled out the window at the guy. I thought for sure I would have been bailing him out of jail.

I have also been told that the PoPo is tired of dealing with it so they just ignore it now. Just what I heard, I have not verified the info, but we drive by there every night and the cars are always on the bike path.

I have asked this very same question and was told by the valet guy when I encountered this on my bike (it was almost dark) to just "ride in the road" Nice...

In another thread Stinkys said they would take care of this. Tick, tock... no action. This is done frequently and is a little insulting to say the least to think that some of us utilize the bike path during non-busy hours and that no one will notice after dark.

It is actually a code enforcement issue and I will stop there...

Thanks for allowing me to vent

Let's try something different: Hey Stinkys, stop allowing cars to be parked on the bike path please!!!

I have a feeling that the people who are leaving their trash and crap on the beach don't log on to SoWal.

I think we've got a new beach chair rental vendor down by Ramsgate/Eastern Lake. Back when SoWal's TNJed did it, he set up a little ways back from the edge and everyone had room to stroll either wet or dry sand. Now, they are setting up just at the edge of the wet sand. Rude to all the beach strollers who have to pass behind-thru-directly in front of them.

    Uncaring Tourists

It is really hard for me to see Tourists, who come to our wonderful place, and leave trash all over the beach. It is about respect. If I visited the place they call home, they would not like it if I left all my trash in their yards. They leave giant holes on the beach, not realizing I guess that someone could break a leg in the hole at night. I guess tourists don't realize that noone is going to pick up after them. All their trash washes into the Gulf. I have an idea. Lets make all tourists before they come take a quiz about how to show respect in an area you visit. If they pass they can come if they fail then they can go visit somewhere else. This area is our Home. Plain and Simple. Keep it clean people.

Funny you should mention this. I noted the same thing at Adagio and thought it was very inconsiderate of those who walk the beach. Today, they set up a bit further back and I'm wondering if the sheriff's office said something to them. Most rude to disregard the beach strollers, IMO.

Everytime I pick up trash people come up and thank me. They tell me they do the same. Very nice feeling.

I'm am so sick of cigarette butts! I even found them jammed into the handle of the walk down to the lovely beach!

I wonder is it just too much trouble to put a cig butt in a coke or beer can???

Our beach in Seagrove looks great. Now only three homes rent, so not only is the beach clean (I didn't have to pick up any trash on the beach this past weekend -- yay!), but it is SO private that one can sunbathe topless if one wants an even tan -- maybe an occasional towel cover-up when a walker goes by. Awesome!
