Fishing sand fleas from the beach
Any advice on fishing using live sand fleas from the beach. Will be in Watersound next week with the family.

I usually walk in the surfline and feel them with my toes then scoop them up. A sand flea rake works also.

Like kurt said a sand flea rake is good, but don't go nuts. Take a small piece of tupperware with you and add some sand and water. They don't take heat too well so maybe 5-10 at a time is best unless you like fishing with dead bait.
They are right at the edge of the water where the slope turns from gentle to the first actual drop off, usually about 2-6 inches. When the water goes out you'll see little "v"s in the sand. This is when you'll drag the rake, go as deep as the rake is wide. Once you've done this it may be all over in that area, they seem to be sensitive to vibrations so they may be aware and move on. They also seem to congregate at the farthest point out if the shore is scalloped at all.
There are also sand scorpions that have some mean looking pinchers and are flatter. They work, but I haven't seen a lot of them.
If all else fails head up to Yellow Fin in Seagrove by the Villas, they can help you out.
