    Abundance of Dragonflies?

I'm down at Eastern Lake for the month and can't help but notice the amount of huge dragonflies in the area. Has anyone else noticed them or know if this is a normal fall occurance?

It's normal and they are eating Mosquitos, so enjoy them! ;)

One of our glorious wonders of nature! Dragonflies buzzing the dunes when the weather is perfect.

There do seem to be more than normal for this time of year though.

On the flip side, haven't really seen many monarch butterflies yet, and they usually seem to start showing up in late September.

We've noticed them too. Thousands of them in the afternoon. At first we thought it was because we put in a small pond. I just couldn't figure out if they were always like this or we were just noticing them more now. Glad you posted this. I've learned that some are territorial. We have a big one that patrols over the little pond. He chases away my hummingbirds!

This is their mating season and is normal for this time of year to see so many.

The ones we saw two weekends ago were Chernobyl huge. We pinged a few with the car. It was like driving into a mockingbird!

There are many types of Dragonflies in our area, and some are really beautiful.

Some of them are big enough to qualify as roadkill.

I think they are beautiful. A HUGE and pretty blue dragonfly flew into my condo today. (I had the doors open enjoying the weather!) I gently coaxed him or her out with a towel. Poor thing-- trying to find his way through the glass door.

We normally would have seen them when we were down the end of August, early September. Just saw one on the deck, and usually we see the love bugs also, did not see a one this year. Glad for that. Those are hard to get out of the townhouse. Has anyone seen them?

Dragonflies. We've had lots this year too. Really big ones. Some pretty butterflies, but not many monarchs yet.

    Lovebugs. Yuck.

I've seen several monarch butterflies here and some dragonflies but the ones here are small. My son's dog loves watching the dragonflies and butterflies flying around. Glad we don't have love bugs.

I wish someone would tell the dragonflies to eat the biting flies, too! Usually, the biting flies are here in September. Someone forgot to tell them that it is October and there time here has expired.

Could not enjoy Artwalk last night due to flies biting Milly!

That is another thing we did not have bothering us this time were the biting flies. We have usually had a problem with them every time we have been there.
