    Droid Users - question

Brand new phone with a full charge at 11:30 last night had a dead battery this morning. Do Y'all have this issue? Should I disengage wifi and everything except phone to save battery?

    Thanks!!

Sounds like a bad battery to me. Even with wifi on it shouldn't drain that fast...
I'd run it by the store where you bought it and have them swap out the battery.

I had nothing but battery problems with droid, iPhone solved my issue, but try a taskkiller, delete all those widgets and it helps to remove battery once a week if it's not a bad battery of course.

You probably have some apps running, and don't realize it. First look for your web browser and see if it is open, or a mapping/GPS feature. Both will constantly be sending and receiving data and help to drain the battery.

I second task killer as a good start point.

When I got mine (droid) about a year ago the battery was great, now with the several android updates it drains very fast. I even bought a new battery and same deal.

I have been brand loyal to Motorola since the brick phone back in the early 90's and the Droid is the worst phone I have ever had. I might try the X when my upgrade comes around, or something new from Motorola if they have it, but if not like many others I am sure are thinking will Verizon please bring on the iPhone!

I hear people talking about the "Droid" phone as though there is only one. Droid is a generic name for any brand phone which can work on the Google Droid platform. Each brand and model of phone will be different.

GPS is the biggest killer, unless you need it turn it off. Apps that need it will use it only when they are running.

Welcome to the Droid world, anytime one of those iSnobs gives you guff just show the "jiggle tits and bounce" app. Shuts the guys right up.

Thanks, All Y'all! It drained this morning with one three min. call. Charged during my meeting and it seems to be fine. Last night, I turned everything off except phone and alarm and it died. Needless to say, I didn't get awake on time (bothers me none, however).

What is task killer and where do I get that? I think droid is the operating system and it has occurred to me that the phone could be bad - Samsung. I'll give it another day.
I only used GPS for about five min. in Birmingham because of the one way streets downtown, then shut it off. I wonder what else could be running?

Miss Kitty - if I find a new drug, you'll be the first to know! On the porch, to boot.

Android is the operating system Lynnie and it does sound like a battery issue. The best of the droid phones is either the Evo or Envy. I researched the possibilities and decided on the iPhone 4. Its pretty amazing, I wish I could show you all the features! :)

Samsung couldn't make a good cell phone if there reputations counted on it, luckily they don't have much of one in this department.

You should be able to return it within so many days and minutes (of usage) for another model.

You know? I charged it last night from my laptop while I was doing my music thing. Maybe that wasn't a good charge? It seems to be holding a charge now.

Do Y'all know if charging from battery is not as strong perhaps?

When using the phone, which is what you were doing copying music over, the charge takes longer. You're better off using the wall charger.

Actually Droid is a model name of a specific phone while there are several phones running the Android OS. There is no such thing as the Droid platform. There are several versions of the Droid model being Droid, Droid2, and DroidX last time I looked.

Go into the settings of the phone and there is an app that will tell you what is killing the battery. Having apps open does not kill the battery unless they are doing something. GPS, Wifi, and even the phone itself if it is not getting a strong signal will kill the thing. I finally gave up and just bought a dock for the house, the office, and the car so I can keep the thing charged.

Don't bother with the after market bigger batteries either. I one and you have to constantly plug and unplug the charger to charge it up. Apparently the charger is 'smart' and stops charging after a specified maximum amount of time.

That's true, but it's because you are putting a drain on the battery at the same time you are trying to charge it. A charge is a charge is a charge if you are not using the phone while doing it. The wall charger steps the juice down to the same level as a USB cable.

Lynnie...you most likely have a bad battery. A full charge followed by an immediate crash is a great indicator of that. There is probably a bad cell within the batter. Take it back to the store and have them swap it out.

One has to wonder if Motorola does not do that on purpose also.

Charge is great now. My email are getting hung up, too. I have to power off, then on to get email to refresh and send new.....not that I need to be that connected, but just sayin'......you know?

wrobert, I need help - how do I find which app is the drain or issue?

If you want any smart phone to work properly it should be power cycled* at least once a day.

*turned off and then turned on, most of the newer ones have a timer that does this automatically.

I am using a Motorola Droid. I go into settings, about phone, battery use, from there it list the applications I use and what percentage of battery discharge they are responsible for.

I turn off my GPS and Wireless unless I am using them. I went into the settings and reduced the brightness and amount of time my screen stayed on to the minimum I could live with. I can pretty much get a whole day out of the phone if I have too. But if I want to read something (Kindle App) while stuck in a boring meeting, it is sometimes close so I put it on the charger if I am going to be in the office for a bit.

My phone guy told me to hold my finger down on a blank part of the screen and select android widgets then select power control

then hold your finger down on a blank part of the screen again and then go to Samsung Widgets and select Program Monitor.

These 2 things will show up on your screen and when you have tasks/aps open that drain your battery you can choose to end them all.

Doing this has worked wonders for the battery life of my phone.
