Hubby and I almost drowned in a Hobie Cat at The Cloister. We've taken out big yachts many times in Lake Pontchartrain, so felt confident in our sailing abilities. But hubby made a wrong tack, and we capsized. All I remember is seeing the surface of the water yet not being able to swim to the surface due to being held down by ropes. Hubby freed himself, and then freed me just at the point where I was about to drown. The lifeguards rescued us, and we were taken to the ER. I had severe rope burns and bruises which were evident for a month. Thank God that Mom and Lauren decided not to take the boat ride. Now Lauren won't get into a boat except in Venice where she has no choice. She'll get into a vaporetto, but not a gondola.

So be careful in those Hobie Cats.
