Thread: Red Fox at Inlet Beach

    Red Fox at Inlet Beach

While we were driving along Inlet Beach Saturday evening at 7:30, we saw a Red Fox in the underbrush along the dunes. We backed the car up and he ran off.

My daughter and I were just walking along the surf when we noticed the fox roaming the beach and heading for shore. We quickly headed back to the walkway!!! It was about 11:00 at night!

Is this normal behavior? We left a fox living in our backyard in GA;; didn't expect to see one here. :)

Thanks Geo and Lou. I was thinking the same thing. As long as the fox runs away from you, then yes, it is pretty normal. Lots of wildlife at different times in our area. Bears and foxes are two you might see.

And really good looking. I see them twice a year or so. It's the bobcat, bear, surfing alligator sightings that are more rare. Yes- surfing... IN. THE. GULF...

There is a thread around here with pics to prove it...

Awesome! That is why we love SoWal! My daughter was a bit freaked - I was ok... She is 13 and gets freaked about everything. Again, this is why we love SoWal!!!

I worry about Bull & Tiger Sharks in the Gulf; Alligators are not something I'm looking out for! I hope not to run into any of these 3 when I'm out there swimming...

This is one of the many things I love about SoWal: the feeling that you're in the wild, and that the place belongs to other species too.

We do have a lot of them around here. They are cute. It's very cool when you see one in the dunes or on the beach!

If you haven't seen The Fantastic Mr. Fox yet - it's a funny cussin' movie!

I was pulling inot my driveway earlier this week and 2 red foxes popped out of the woods next door. Yes, they are very cute- maybe playing - these seemed to be very surprised they had popped out onto the street and scurried back in fast!

We have seen them every night either on the beach or in the street. Hubby and I were riding our bikes and saw 2 just wandering around! Very cool. I met a guy last night who feels the fox hotdogs. No wonder they are friendly.

Very bad to feed the foxes!

It makes them lose their fear of humans and lack of fear of humans could get them destroyed for fear of rabies.

It also is nasty food and encourages trash picking.

In the three days after our rabies fiasco I had a bat buzz me and my dog while we were walking, a fox dart across the road in front of my during my run and that dang raccoon stalk us. Wild life abounds but I was feeling like they were all part of some alternate Hitchcock universe I'd been thrown into.
    Quit whining and RUN!!
