Paxton Student Wins Flutterby Festival Poster Competition

A long-standing tradition of the Flutterby Festival is to feature participating Walton County elementary school students' butterfly masterpieces at the festival. Each year, the butterfly submissions are judged with one student's work chosen for the festival poster. The 2011 Flutterby Festival poster art winner is Katie Truett, a 5th grade student at Paxton Elementary School. Katie Truett's winning poster design at Flutterby.
Hosted by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, the annual Flutterby Festival is returning to Rosemary Beach, Nov. 12-13, to celebrate the arts and the migration of the Monarch Butterfly along Scenic Highway 30A.
In addition, eleven other works by students were chosen and will be featured in a new set of note cards that are representative of the fun and magical event. The student artists include: Caylor Dixon, 4th grade, Paxton Elementary; Samantha Lee, 1st grade, Paxton Elementary; Sofie Daiberl, 2nd grade, Bay Elementary; Eavin Woolf, 3rd grade, Bay Elementary; Cameron Beck, 4th grade, Butler Elementary; Xavier Epplin, 3rd grade, Butler Elementary; Nolan Bacani, 3rd grade, Butler Elementary; Anna Seigler, 3rd grade, Mossy Head Elementary; Cayli Henning, 3rd grade, Mossy Head Elementary; Duncan Crittenden, 1st grade, Freeport Elementary; and Denise Farris, 1st grade, Freeport Elementary.
"Supporting the arts in Walton County’s schools is at the core of our mission," said Jennifer Steele, executive director of the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County. "By showcasing the talent of our local students at the Flutterby Festival, we celebrate their artistic expression and creativity while raising much-needed funds that will go back into their classrooms through educational grants."
All proceeds from the sale of the note cards will benefit Walton County teachers and students through the CAA’s Educational Giving Program, which provides $20,000 in grants and scholarships annually. Note cards will be sold in sets of 12 for $20 and can be purchased at the Flutterby Festival, Nov. 12 & 13 in Rosemary Beach, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The cards can also be purchased at the Bayou Arts Center throughout the year.
