Beat your clock til it loses an hour

For people who live in the Northern Hemisphere, the change in autumn means more hours of darkness and colder weather, which keeps many people indoors. As a result, many feel more depressed and have more sleep disturbance as well as daytime sleepiness and fatigue.

The number of hours of darkness are determined by the sun, not the clock. I think what you mean is that the change means more hours of darkness in the late afternoon when people tend to be out and about and would prefer more daylight.
I think the abrupt change, not only the autumn change but the spring change as well, is what causes people problems. We have been getting used to the shorter days a few minutes at a time as the sun progresses in its yearly rhythm, and then, wham, a whole hour adjustment has to be made.
The other issue for us here in SoWal is the Central Time Zone. In Jacksonville, which is not much different from our latitude here, today's sunrise is 6:45 am and sunset is 5:35 pm. In Austin, also a similar latitude, it's 6:48 am and 5:39 pm. If we were on Eastern time, sunrise today would have been 7:02, and sunset would be at 5:53 pm.
If you look at the US time zone map here and bring the boundary between Eastern and Central time due south from the Indiana/Illionois border, most of Alabama and all of Florida would be in the Eastern time zone. This makes more sense to me.

You can always protest by refusing to change your clocks. Going to be weird watching the sun set at 5:30pm again. Perhaps everyone in SoWal can protest the time change.

SoWal time is the right time.

I agree. Less daylight means SAD if you are susceptible to that. But, she said again, it's a function of the sun, not the clocks. There is not an hour less daylight today than there was yesterday.

Going off daylight time really depresses me. It is exacerbated when we come from EST to SoWal where it gets dark so incredibly early. We just pretend it's EST when we're there November through February.

One reason our daughter hated being at MIT is that it would get dark there as early as about 4 PM. Very depressing and, for me, disorienting.

exactly. also, I love to get up early with the sun rising. very hard to get up early in the dark. AND I love the feel of having a whole additional hour after changing the clocks back. Wonderful...

Getting to bed earlier is a good thing for me, so it works out all the way around!

I like the fall time change, but not the one in the spring.

Sorry if this time change makes others SAD though. I think its easy in SoWal to still get out enough during the day and remain active, for most of the winter season, to stay happy.

SAD usually affects people further north.

Still plenty of sunshine here in Sowal to keep the blues away! 30 minutes a day is all you need!

I'm with Toots on this one... I LOVE the "Fall Back" time change... HATE "Springing Forward".
But then, this is my favorite time of year all around, anyhow...
