    Help me understand - Hwy 98 W

So I know Hwy 98 is also referred as Emerald Coast Pkwy and Harbor Blvd, etc. mostly for vanity purposes.

It seems that Hwy 331 creates the separating point for "98 W" and "98 E".
For example, the Donut Hole in SRB is: 6745 US Highway 98 W while the Regional Utilities location is: 4432 US Highway 98 E

However, I always thought the direction the highway traveled dictated the name of such. So shouldn't the Donut Hole be on 98 EAST ???

    Thanks

East or west addresses on a highway or other roadway is always designated as east or west from a particular point on that roadway.

The direction you are traveling has only to do with being in the eastbound or westbound lane on hwy 98, not the physical address. Addresses are not traveling, and are as kurt mentioned, from a fixed point. For Hwy 98 in Walton Co, 331 is the east/west break.
For example, the Donut Hole in SRB is: 6745 US Highway 98 W while the Regional Utilities location is: 4432 US Highway 98 E
The primary reason for addresses (it's not mail delivery) is for emergency response. The address number refers to the distance from the fixed break, such as Hwy 331. For example, the Donut hole in SRB, is located 6.745 miles west from Hwy 331 and Regional Utilities is located 4.432 miles east of Hwy 331. (1000 = 1 mile) This helps emergency response know more precisely the location.

Works even on your street. If your address is 73 Widget Way, your driveway is located .073 miles from the break point or beginning of that road.

Yep, 1000 addresses per mile. And the east-west point for 30A is at Grayton Corners.

OMG this is great! Speaking for those of us who beg to be told "right or left" and don't mind turning around and stopping to ask "where am I'" over and over this is going to be so much help. I've been coming here for twenty-five years and now the multitude of phone books in our condo finally make sense.

    Thanks

I guess there are several non-contiguous parts of 98 labelled as East and West. So more confusing.
For instance, the The Chick Fil A (and all of the businesses on the north side of 98) in "old Destin" are on 98 East. So is there another Dividing point for 98 which is aka Emerald Coast Pkway???

    Another Hwy 98 question.

This also known as Emerald Coast Pkwy and Harbor Blvd, Miracle Strip, Navarre Pkwy, etc. I know ECP starts at Sacred Heart Hospital (on east end,) but where does it end and switch to Harbor Blvd, after Airport Rd?
