    new wcso radio system boondoggle.

despite concerns voiced by the majority of the walton county fire departments it appears sheriff adkinson is determined to install a new communication system they refer to (sleurs). emergency responders say they have trouble getting a signal and often don't hear emergency traffic on the system. i see the county commission recently agreed to spend the millions of dollars it will take to install it. maybe before the sheriff spends the money from us taxpayers that we don't have. if the current system is not broke don't try and spend us to bankruptcy.

I wanted to respond to your post as it does raise a good question for debate. I have no knowledge of such system but if it is not going to work and those who use it, do not like it, I see a problem...

Festus: With all the other nonsense going on in this county, the radio system is something most people are not willing to look at right now. There is a time for this discussion as the year moves towards the election cycle.

As for Ralph Johnson coming out of retirement, he'd have his work cut out for him with all the power brokers in place right now, he'd need to really drop a bomb shell about something or someone. Maybe after a culling of the elected officials takes place, the great cabal of Good Ole' Boys can be dismantled. Again, most of the public do not have a clue what goes on outside the initial layer of visibility in any elected office in this county. You have to pull a few layers back to see what is going on...

    Good ole boy's dismantled? Ha!

Rumor has it Adkinson is the next County Attorney and he is still the City Attorney. They should really stop recycling the garbage in this county. That's the only way to get rid of the good ole boy's.

    From WZEP Today

Capt. Joe Preston with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office came to request $3.1 million for the SLRS radio system. This is the third phase and he told commissioners he hopes this is the last money request. The commissioners also approved buying 60 radios for the fire departments. These will add to the 83 radios they already have. Another $300,000 will go to a company putting in the dispatch consuls.

SWFD went to this 800 system some years back. Niceville likewise spent a ton of money and installed it about the same time and then last year dumped it saying it was unreliable. There just aren't enough towers in this area to make it a good system.

The question is why did we sink millions into this system when others around us have found it unreliable? The Okaloosa Sheriff pulled out when he took office due to these concerns. Why has Walton been so stubborn about proceeding with an unreliable system?

idlewind your not just whistling "dixie". the county commission has agreed to sink in 3 point 7 million more greenbacks into an unreliable system that our firefighters say doesn't work in places like here, darlington. the northwest daily news says the total amount adds to 5 and half million. i wish the county commission gave us the opportunity to vote on this one. by the way all those home scanners that many of you senior citizens like to listen to won't be worth a plug nickel! slers will not allow you to here transmissions on your scanner. aN Eexpenditure that's such a waste of our hard earned taxpayer money

Good old boys wasting money on something that isn't needed? Certainly our elected officials wouldn't do that.
