    Any open-water swimmers out there?

I'm looking for training partners for some open-water swims in the gulf--distances between 1 mile and 5k--during January and February. I'm comfortable swimming by myself, but it's always safer to have a swim buddy, not to mention more fun! Are there any swimmers or triathletes out there training in the gulf now, or willing to?

If you're on the west side of the county, I'd try calling Dragon Sports in Ft. Walton Beach. They generally know a fair amount of what's going on in the local tri scene, and Pam's a high school swim coach who can probably also tell you about masters options, organized and informal.

Thanks Beachmouse, I will try that! I'm actually on the east end of 30A, but will travel to find swim partners. I currently work out with a masters group at the Frank Brown Park pool--I tried to recruit some to swim with me in the gulf last year, but they thought it was too cold. This year is warmer, though, so maybe I'll have some luck, either with them or with some Ft. Walton swimmers.
