30-a is not a pedestrian walkway!

Just saw a little boy get hit by a car in Dune Allen. Emergency personnel were on the scene within minutes. He seemed to to be ok, thank God. He was alert and sitting up in his parent's lap. EVERYONE, please be careful! SLOW DOWN! TOURISTS, 30-A is a HIGHWAY!!!! Look both ways! Hold little children's hands!!! Please do not let your children run free. This is paradise, but it's not a golf cart community. Please forgive my tone. I'm still shaking.

OMG! Hope he actually is okay. I'm sure you've heard this story before, but my brother was killed by a drunk driver when he was 5 and I was 8. We were playing in a friend's front yard. The driver lost control of his car. He came within about a foot of killing me too. So when we're on 30A, we always stop for people crossing 30A, regardless of if they're at an official crosswalk or not. We ride our brakes through Seaside, especially when we see young children whose hands aren't being held by their parents.

You are right -- many visitors don't seem to realize that 30A is a highway.

I know you must be shaken up, Hop. That's an awful thing to see. Take care.

Here in Dune Allen we have pedestrian crossings at all the appropriate places, and as a daily walker my experience has been that just about nobody except locals stop for us at the crossovers. I rarely see jaywalkers and that goes for tourists and locals. Its the golf carts that are showing up more and more and mn any are not street legal
