Agreed. Had them deliver and spread. They did a great job, cleaned up and were sensitive to my wifes concerns about covering flowers etc.. I thought they were very reasonably priced.

i've used putnal for many yrs but to be honest i haven't been real happy with the quaility the last 3 or so times. tons of sticks in the straw.I usually do at least 2 times a yr in the spring and fall

We always appreciate customer comments both positive and negative. We are the only retail pine straw company that I am aware of who gives more effort or maybe any effort on the production end to provide the best quality and value for your money. That said there are many factors in the production of baled pine straw that we can not control. For the first time in over 25 years we have a serious labor shortage that requires a uniquely skilled hard working individual to work in these hot fields with mosquitos, knats and yellow flies day after day raking and packing pine straw into a metal box. It takes months to find this type of worker and even longer to train this worker to rake straw clean and pack the bales tight. Even after finding and training this labor there are natural forces constantly at work that affects the quality. For example when the straw is wet or damp it is very difficult to rake it clean, time of the year affects how much new straw is on the ground and if the field happens to be in the path of a severe thunderstorm (very likely this time of year) there are strong winds that blow off a lot of small limbs from the trees. Planted pine trees can only be baled from the ages of 8 year to 14 years which means that we are constantly moving into new fields. The first year and the last year the quality of the straw is not ideal which means there will be some natural inconsistency with quality. This is not meant to be a bunch of excuses because we understand that you want the best quality that money can buy however we are positive that if you purchase from any supplier year after year you will see that the quality changes. All we can do is give 100% effort into providing the best baled pine straw available for the pine tree and pine straw conditions that exist. Summers generally have poor quality but even with poor quality pine straw it is still the best natural ground cover mulch that exists. There is no other mulch available that does not destroy a tree, provides erosion control, weed control and provide organic nutrients for the soil. Even if you do not purchase our product because of occassional low quality we hope that you will give us a try next time and thank you for the feed back.
