A Non-satirical Post, for once.
A Non-satirical post, for once.
OK, seriously, this is a non-satirical post. This is an actual conversation I had with one of my co-workers. He is 26, a home schooled, conservative Christian. If any of you have ever wondered why I am driven to post the jokes poking fun at these groups, I hope this sheds some light on my motives.
The conversation started innocently enough; we were discussing the price of gasoline.
30-gAy:“It is time to look into raising the government standards on minimum mpg rates for cars and SUVs.”
Co-Worker: “I disagree, why does the government have the right to dictate to me, an individual, what kind of car I can drive? That is communism. The government is already close to a communist dictatorship as it is.”
“Explain”
“They are using this whole global warming thing, which is a huge lie, to justify seizing more power and push us closer to a one world government.”
“But I think we are moving towards a majority consensus in our society, that global warming is a problem that needs to be addressed.”
“So it’s OK to have a dictatorship then?”
“Well, if a majority of people supports an idea within a democracy, then I don’t really think that you can claim we’ve degenerated into a dictatorship just because you disagree with the opinion.”
“If you believe in global warning then you can drive a little car. Since you also want to tell me what to drive, then that’s a dictatorship –just like Stalin did.”
“So government regulations should only be for people who agree with them?”
“The government has no right to regulate me at all.”
“So, let’s say you own a property with a stream on it; does the government have the right to tell you not to put pollution in it?”
“No”
“Well, what if the pollution flows onto your neighbor’s property and sickens and kills his family? What is to stop that?”
“Individuals will stop that. They will punish you if you do.”
“So your neighbors will form a pitchfork wielding mob, come to your house and kill you for doing that?”
“Yep.”
“And you’re saying that is preferable to the government regulating you?”
“Yep.”
“I think that’s a pretty radical opinion.”
“Well why don’t you move to California then, with all the other commies, break off from the US and leave us alone?”
“I don’t think it’s incumbent upon me to evacuate my home just because you disagree with my opinion. But since we’re taking pot-shots –why don’t you move to Somalia where you can have all the anarchy you want. I hear it’s lovely this time of year.”
And to all you folks in California, New York and other Blue states, just look at all the fun you're missing!
P.S. -This is the same co-worker who years earlier had condemned homosexuality on biblical grounds -at the same time he was living (in sin) with his unmarried girlfriend. To this day he refuses to admit any hypocrisy.

I swear 30-gay, you must work here in my office. That converstion could have taken place with a guy I work with...I try not to enter any room that he is in at any time.
And I just have to ask you, not that you will answer. Who are you? Are you local to SoWal? How did you find this board?
I am just curious....You are a great read and I love all of your posts.~If Life is a journey....the BEACH should be the destination!~

Wow, that almost borders on the pathological. Sorry you have to work with that. A real live anarchist? How does he feel about stop signs? Or how about (hitting him where he hurts here) flag burning, or pro-choice laws? Do you suppose he'd be tempted to call the police if you set up a loud disco dance party outside his house at 3am and invited all your friends? As Bugs Bunny would say....what a maroon!

I would talk to a person like that strictly for the entertainment value, and then again, only when I was in the mood for some good old-fashioned disbelief.
