trip report.. Seagrove 8/12 - 8/19
Now that I've had a week to mourn not being there any more, I'll tell ya how our trip was!
Overall, everything was wonderful. We hit a small snafu when we got there Saturday, in that the 2 BR gulf front condo we rented did not have working air conditioning. Kudos to (Kit?) at our rental agency for working after hours to get someone out there to look at it immediately. Turned out it couldn't be fixed, so we had to move to a 1 BR not gulf front on Saturday night. Not the way we expected to spend our first night there, but hey.. these things happen.
Sunday was a great beach day, except for the seaweed.. but luckily this turned out to be the only seaweed day all week!
Monday, we sat around for a while waiting for someone from the realty company to call and tell us we could move back to the 2 BR, since they had said it would be done "first thing Monday morning". Finally, I called them, to be told that it MIGHT get done that day but more than likely "first thing Tuesday". That ended up being around 3 PM Tuesday.. oh well. Like I said, these things happen. And they did agree to refund one night's stay (at the 2 BR rate), which was nice although it would impress me more if I hadn't had to ASK for it.
The 1 BR condo at Palms that they moved us to was clean enough, but it was very poorly furnished.. I think we have better pots and pans at our campsite than this condo did. But once we got back in to the 2 BR, we had everything we needed and then some. Note to owners: We'll probably try and get this same condo for next year, because they had it so well furnished and nicely decorated. Little things like having a well-stocked kitchen, enough patio chairs, and information about local attractions/restaurants really do make a difference.
We had honestly planned to do more sightseeing/exploring/shopping than we did, but we were waiting for a rainy day, which never came. Not that I'm complaining.. the weather was perfect, the water was clear, and we spent a wonderful week hanging out on the beach.
We ate at Angelina's, Yianni's (GREAT grouper po-boy sandwich), Pompano's in PCB, Pickles in Seaside, and Pineapple Willy's. Oh. And Whataburger. That was after discovering that there is NOTHING decent open after 10 PM on a Wednesday night.
That's what we get for procrastinating, I guess.
I was amazed at how wonderful the beaches looked. When we were down last year, we were dodging bulldozers, the beaches were still pretty dark, and Emerald Hill next door was hanging over the edge of the dunes. There is obviously still some damage visible, but it looks like the beaches and dunes are well on their way to recovery. Thank goodness.
So.. other than the problem with our condo, we had a perfectly wonderful stay in Seagrove! Just wish it could have been longer.
We miss it already! Hopefully we can make it back next year.

Great report, amy. Can you tell us which condo it was specifically that you liked so much? Someone else on the board might be interested in renting it in the future!

We stayed in Beachside condos, #2. It was very nicely decorated (very BRIGHT colors.. not what I'd put in my house but perfect for a beach place), and had tons of pillows/blankets/etc.
The kitchen was very well-stocked.. we could have gone all week without washing dishes (we didn't.. eww.) Plus, there was a TV & dvd player in both bedrooms, which was nice, and some games and a jigsaw puzzle. They had a drawer with loads of menus from area restaurants and attractions.
Plus.. they have a new a/c now.

We didn't get sushi this year, but we did last year. It is very tasty there! We got a seafood platter which was very yummy.
Pineapple Willy's isn't my favorite place in the world, but it was good too.. even though we were sitting out on the "pier" that doesn't even reach the water during a severe thunderstorm (Friday night).
Cafe 30-A looked interesting, but we didn't get a chance to visit.. maybe next year!
