Survivor Tonight - My Brother-In-Law is Bad Boy of the Show
For the few of you who have been following Survivor (such as Ocean Lover), it has been funn to watch my brother-in-law Jonathan become the bad-boy of the show. It's on tonight at 8:00 Eastern Standard Time, but I don't know what time it's on in other time zones. Personally, I didn't expect Jonathan to take on the bad-boy role, but he sure has been a hoot to watch and the show has given him a lot of visibility. Nobody on the show seems to like him (OK, he has done some things to tick people off), except Yul (he and Yul are still friends), probably because the two of them are playing the game very strategically, though differently (he's still friends with Candice and Jenny, too). Ozzie is playing the game pretty shrewdly as well, though he's staying under the radar (good move). The women have been underplayed in general unless there are sexual overtones, but I that's most likely because the editors have cast the women in particular roles through what they edit in and out of the show (that's true with everyone -- they are certainly highlighting Jon's bad boy image through their editing as well).
We leave for Los Angeles next Friday to go to the finale on Sunday night, which will be followed by parties. I have nothing good to wear. That's one of the things I like best about Ann Arbor where we live and SoWal -- you really don't have to worry about what you wear -- capris, t-shirts, sandels are all you need. I LOVE that! I already asked if those would be appropriate to wear for the Survivor finale (especially if I wore new capris, t-shirt, sandels) and have been told that I should dress up a little bit more than that. Drat.
Kimmifunn -- I pm'd you to see if you want to get together when we're in LA.Last edited by Paula; 12-07-2006 at 05:35 AM.

Re: Survivor Tonight - My Brother-In-Law is Bad Boy of the Show
I enjoy watching your BIL and realize the show is edited to have different personalities. What I find so interesting about the two that are so mad at Jonathon is that they were plannning to vote him off next if he had not changed sides. How does that get left out in all the drama? It is a game with BIG rewards. May he last a while longer. I think it is grayt to spend all that time at a place as beautiful as it is.....a rare opportunity.
Enjoy the finale and I want a full report!People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did.
But people will never forget how you made them feel.

Re: Survivor Tonight - My Brother-In-Law is Bad Boy of the Show
I managed to watch it last week and Jonathan was entertaining. It was quite funny watching him eat all that food.
It was easy to see past the editing. He didn't linger around and gave the group their privacy in discussions unlike past survivors. He went and got dinner even though I am sure he probably didn't need to eat for a few days.
He also handled the argument very well with the cast off survivor. She certainly didn't help her case at all by confronting everyone about dinner.

Careful not to go all Hollywood on us. If you hook up with Kfunn you're a goner.

I'm sure her people will call your people.

Re: Survivor Tonight - My Brother-In-Law is Bad Boy of the Show
Paula, Jonathon has made the show this season. Jeesh, without him it would have been so ho hum! It's mainly the young 20 somethings that are mad at him. I'm so hoping Adam goes soon. I really like Yul. Jonathon would be the popular choice to take to the final 2. Which also means $100,000 for Jonathon. The location has been absolutely beautiful. I think it must be where they take pictures for tropical screensavers.
I can't wait to hear all about the finale and the parties. It'll be so funn for you and your family!!!

Re: Survivor Tonight - My Brother-In-Law is Bad Boy of the Show
You will all definitely get the full report once I get some insider information and can pass it on, though I don't have much to add right now other than I think tonight's show will be an exciting night (we're having pizza, beer, and chocolate cake with friends while we watch in honor of Jonathan's dinner he won at the auction last week -- though we won't give up a huge burp like he did last week after eating). At some point the contestants families typically come in, so maybe we'll get to see Jon's wife Stacy if he stays in long enough. And if you think Jon's a hoot... Stacy's fantastic in my book. Best sister-in-law a gal could have so I hope she gets portrayed well if she's on the show.
As for going all Hollywood, Kurt, not to worry. They wouldn't take me if I wanted to get in because I just don't have the wardrobe for it and won't buy the wardrobe for it. I've been clear to everyone who will listen that my goal is to become a beach bum in SoWal in about 6 years, perhaps a beach bum who exercises.Last edited by Paula; 12-07-2006 at 07:41 AM.

Ditto here, OL. I never laughed so much while watching a Survivor show as I have with Jonathon. That man is a hoot! And it's such a pleasure to watch a contestant who actually has some brain cells upstairs. A lot of them are only pretty faces (which gets boring after a while). I hope Jonathon makes it to the end--what a finale that will be.

Re: Survivor Tonight - My Brother-In-Law is Bad Boy of the Show
AAW, grayt pics Paula.
I was so sorry to see Jonathan leave
tonight.
I thought for sure they would vote out the blond haired fella (name?) but I guess they saw him as a bigger threat. I almost cried when he lost the water challenge with Stacy. He was the only one who had a spouse he hadn't see in 31 days, so I felt sooooo bad, and they were so close to Parvati and his father probably by a drop or two of water.
I'll be looking for you in the finale.

Sorry to see Jonathon go!!!! It was a bad time to go to Exile Island. I so wanted him and Stacy to win. That would be so hard to just see each other for seconds and then be wisked away. Candace looked different didn't she? I almost didn't recognize her.

Re: Survivor Tonight - My Brother-In-Law is Bad Boy of the Show
Yeah, I was sorry to see Jon go to exile island right after Stacy got there. I definitely got teary-eyed when they sent him away.
But it looks like others didn't spend much time with their loved ones as well, except for the 3 who got the feast. I thought Stacy looked great. Their relationship is really like that -- very loving. I liked the way Stacy was wringing out her shirt and hair to get more water in the bucket.
I'm glad the editors portrayed them lovingly.
And, of course, I was sad to see Jon voted off -- it was pretty clear that he wasn't going to make it to the end, but it was a sad kind of ending after having added so much funn to the show. It's hard to tell from the show itself whether people were that unsupportive of him, or if it was the editing. Strategically, I'm not sure it was the smartest thing for Yul and others to do because Jonathan didn't seem to be much of a threat (except maybe some immunity challenges) because in the end it didn't seem like the jury would vote for him to receive the money, though maybe something could have turned that around. So, by voting him off, they are leaving some of the bigger threats (Yul though he has at least one immunity, Ozzie). It may be one of the lower profile women who wins -- there's a lot to be said for staying under the radar and staying out of trouble. That's a pretty clever strategy.
I'm going to be real interested in hearing what was going on that wasn't shown on TV. I hope he was having more fun the last few days than it looked like. He's having a lot of funn now with the aftermath of the show.
We enjoyed our pizza and chocolate cake, though, before the show.Paula

It was so smart of Stacy to wring her shirt and hair.
It was so close. That's the thing, Jonathon was the only one married! The others just wouldn't understand the logic and thinking of a person winning this for their spouse and family. Some of their comments were unfair but sometimes you just have to chalk that up to being young and stupid.

Here's the latest recap from the TelevisionWithoutPity website, and you can see that Miss Alli is mighty miffed that J was voted off last night.
