    Destin area

Looking for good food in the Destin area. We like it all, seafood, steaks. We are not wanting fast food places, just good quality food.
In the area for 3 months, so we need good choices.
    Thanks.

Louisiana Lagniappe in Sandpiper Cove. Also, Acme's in Baytowne Wharf. They're actually famous for their oysters. The chargrilled are amazing.

I just don't get the Callahan's love. Zingerman's in Ann Arbor spoiled me, I guess, for that kind of food.

Keep an eye on Dewey Destin's- they're closing for a winter break, but will open up some time in early 2007. A real shack on the bay with great food.

Nick's on the Bayou (take the Mid Bay Bridge, go east on Hwy 20 to Basin Bayou) reopens after Christmas. Well worth the drive for the seafood, and it's one of those Old Florida places where the developers gather to plot out New Florida. You can watch the owners' chickens wander around out back while listening to a $500 million land deal plan the next table over.

I'd substitute Kenny D's for Louisiana Laginappe on the list. Kenny and Miss Gracie are the real deal, and I'm not fond of the LL's ownership group.

Royal Orchid for Thai, and Osaka for Japanese. There is no great Chinese in the area.

I like Ciao Bella for pizza.

Yes it's THE ACME. Dewey Destin has the freshest fried shrimp. Kenny D's was probably the worst place I've ever eaten in Destin with Pompano Joe's running a close second. The service is really lousy at both. Louisiana Lagniappe has amazing fish dishes with crabmeat, etc. topping. Their salad is fabulous.

    I second Dewey Destin's.

But if we can't make it quite that far west, we are pretty fond of Landry's.

I haven't tried the chargrilled oysters, but in my opinion, the Apalachicola Oysters are much tastier. I remember enjoying the NOLA ACME very much, but the one in Baytowne was just so-so.

Harbor Docks has great food right on the harbor. With the weather we have been having dining outside overlooking the harbor is great this time of year especially if you eat early and watch the sunset over the harbor.

I love Dewey Destins - Camilles and Kenny D's gumbo (also oyster chowder). Miss Gracie makes the best gumbo. Kenny and Miss Gracie started in NO and still have a place back there. Also - I am not a fan of ruebens - but my husband loves McGuire's - swears they are the best in Destin. (I do like their beer).

i was quite pleasantly surprised by bonefish across from the commons. great food, attentive service, knowledgeable staff. then i found out it was a franchise, even better. that fact that a franchise can maintain stand alone service levels was awesome. but that's just me.

Bianco/Cava Blue at the entrance to destiny. awesome food prepared by CMC Jack Shoop. hip bar also.

for quick, but excellent quality, i hit zoe's kitchen in the commons.

donut hole in destin, 24 hrs.

I had forgotten the name of this place. I was there in October & agree with your review. I don't usually like to go to a chain at the beach but since we don't have one here in Pittsburgh I agreed. The food was excellent as well as the service. I believe I had Cobia there. I would definitely go back.
