Seaside Farmers Market Features Santa Rosa Cheesemaking Co.
Santa Rosa Cheesemaking Company has been offering their wonderful products at the Seaside Farmers Market for about a year and we are so hppy to have them. Come see us every Saturday morning from 9am-1pm in the Central Square in Seaside behind Raw & Juicy's airstream.
How long have you lived in the area and where are you from? I was born in Panama City, Florida about 42 years ago and still live there. Actually, I'm about to move to Panama City Beach.
How far do you travel for the market? about 45 min.
What products do you offer? mozzarella, fig leaf-wrapped goat/cow cheese, traditional cheddar varietiess (plain, hot pepper, herb de provence), soft goat, goat cheddar, cour a la creme, red wine colbyAt some point in time I have offered manchego, gouda, feta, and cream cheese.
What makes your items special or unique? The fig leaf-wrapped goat/cow cheese is my most unique item. I created this cheese because I wanted a soft/creamy/spreadable cheese. I did not want to use just a regular plastic container to hold the cheese so I explored my options and thought that a leaf would be unique. I soak the leaves in an alcohol, lately, it has been Jim Beam, which also adds some bite to the cheese. The taste of the cheese I am after is a sharp taste-the goat milk takes care of this aspect. The cow milk adds a nice creamy taste. I wanted the cheese to be soft so that I could shape it into the leaves. I just liked the idea of leaves wrapping my cheese in a leaf.
Is there anything new on the horizon? New products, seasonal items or specials? I may try making swiss cheese one day, but right now I am still trying to settle on which of my current cheeses tastes the best. By letting people taste my cheeses on the spot, gives me the best idea what everyone likes and why they prefer one cheese over the other.
