Kickball Kickoff Party at Shades SEPT 16

September 8, 2014 by SoWal Staff

The Emerald Coast will score an exciting, new sporting opportunity this fall as Whole Life Fitness, a locally based organization that promotes overall wellness for children and adults through recreational activities and education, launches the area’s first kickball club. The adult co-ed club’s season will begin Tuesday, Sept. 16, with following games held each Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the number of registered participants, on the regulation-size field at WindGarden Park at WaterSound Origins.

The club will commemorate the season’s onset with the inaugural Whole Life Fitness Sport and Social Club Kickoff Party at Shades Bar & Grill in Inlet Beach on Sept. 4. The event, sponsored by Shades, Setco Services, Miller Beer and WaveFly by JMF, will be held from 6-9pm and will include door prizes and drink specials.

Kickball, often played in clubs in metropolitan areas, was created as a less-formal form of baseball. Its popularity is growing, in part, as the game offers competitive sporting recreation without typical adult-league gender and age restrictions. Played on a diamond layout, participants kick a rubber ball, instead of using bats, and the team that scores the most runs at the end of the game wins.

“We are continually researching opportunities to fulfill our mission to provide the best possible fitness activities that offer physical, social and educational benefits to members of our community,” said Brooke Brannon, co-founder and co-owner of Whole Life Fitness. “Kickball, with its more relaxed style, is the perfect fit for our program. It allows for an active, fun way for people to connect, no matter a participant’s athletic ability. And by bringing the game in league form to the area at St. Joe’s beautiful, emerging WaterSound Origins development, we know we are creating a club that can provide enjoyment to area residents this fall and for many seasons to come.”

Registration includes an official Whole Life Fitness Kickball Club T-shirt and field and referee costs, as well as an invitation to post-game socials held at club sponsor Shades Bar & Grill. The fee for teams, which must include a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 players, is $550. The fee for free agents, which are guaranteed a team spot, is $50.

Whole Life Fitness Kickball Club participants must be 21 years of age or older. Online registration, general and playing rules and the participation wavier can be viewed and downloaded at WholeLifeFitnessFL.com.
