Annual Walton County 200 Countdown Celebration
The Eighth Annual Walton County 200 Countdown Celebration will be Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. to countdown to and celebrate Walton County ’s 200th birthday. Walton County , Florida will be 200 years old in 2024 and was founded December 29, 1824. Guests should arrive in time for the sunset toast around 4:41 p.m.
The Honorary George Walton, Jr. and Madame Octavia Walton LeVert will be selected from donors for the Santa Rosa Beach 100 booklet recently published. A limited number of SRB100 Celebration booklets will be available. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library of the Coastal Branch Library of South Walton. Last year's honored guests were Sonny (E.L.) and Gloria Anderson Hollingsworth. Sonny's Uncle L.I. Smith had built the boat "The Anna" in 1910 which had been used to travel to the old town of Santa Rosa.
The Walton County 200 Countdown Celebration is held at the Eastern Lake, South Walton home of Lane and Brenda Rees, 323 Lakeview Drive. Walton County was founded Dec. 29, 1824 and named for George Walton, Jr., not to be confused with his father, George Walton, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Each year Walton County residents and guests gather to toast one of the older historical counties in Florida .
