Big Al & the Heavyweights @ Baytowne Wharf
Wednesday night concert series at Baytowne Wharf. All shows are from 7-9 p.m.
September 4 | Dread Clampitt There is nothing like a Dread Clampitt show. "It’s a tasty sonic gumbo of influences ranging from bluegrass, rock & roll, blues, jazz and Louisiana Bayou funk complete with three part harmonies and pinch of southern humor thrown in for good measure."
September 11 | Christabel & the Jons The first thing that hits you when you see Christabel & the Jons perform is lead singer/songwriter Christa DeCicco’s velvety sultry voice. Southern and laid back, her classic delivery and stage presence often draws comparisons to Billie Holiday, Madeleine Peyroux, and Norah Jones. While the similarities are there, she’s also developed a sound that’s all her own, a mix of folk, swing, country, and blues. Christabel mixes her original songs with thoughtfully arranged jazz standards, western swing, and classic country for a sound she calls “Tennessee swing.”
September 18 | Boukou Groove
Boukou Groove is a collaboration between founders, guitarist Derwin “Big D” Perkins and Singer, Keyboardist, Moog Bass player Donnie Sundal. Their sound intertwines New Orleans Funk and Soulful R&B with a Jam Band Twist.
September 25 | Big Al & the Heavyweights All you have to know about these guys is the fanatical following of "Gumbo Heads" that numbers in the thousands. They drive hundreds of miles to get a serving of Big Al and the Heavyweights musical gumbo. Big Al and the Heavyweights is an unconventional original music band that hails from New Orleans, LA. Big Al grew up surrounded by the sounds of New Orleans music - Jazz, Blues, Zydeco, Cajun, Rock, and Swamp Pop. It is these influences that make Heavyweight music so accessible and fun.
