Special Olympics Florida Law Enforcement Torch Run in Defuniak Springs
Come out and support the Law Enforcement Torch Run as it makes its way through Walton County!
Officer’s will begin to gather at Frank’s Corner, 915 Highway 90 West, Defuniak Springs, FL, promptly at 8:30 a.m. This is located directly across the street from Northwest Florida State College. Officers will carry the torch eastbound on U.S. Highway 90 for approximately 1.5 miles and end on the front lawn of the Walton County Courthouse. Multiple Law Enforcement agencies have already committed to this event, and we are again expecting a large turnout.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest annual public relations and fund-raising event amongst Special Olympics Florida and law enforcement agencies. Statewide, the participating chiefs, officers, sheriffs, deputies, special agents, correctional officers, probation and parole officers, military police and cadets from virtually every branch of federal, state, county and municipal law enforcement, represent a total of over 300 different agencies.
For 30 years, the “Flame of Hope” has traversed Florida in an intrastate relay of simultaneous routes throughout the state, covering thousands of miles. The torch is carried by law enforcement officers throughout the state to the opening ceremonies of Special Olympics Florida’s State Summer Games, held at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports on May 17-18, 2013.
The goal is to have the local community and all Walton County schools come out to the Walton County Courthouse to cheer on the officers and show your support of Special Olympics Florida athletes.
